New Mexico GOP official calls woman a 'radical bitch' for supporting higher minimum wage
by Laura Clawson
Republicans spew a lot of ugliness on gay rights, guns, abortion, and other subjects too numerous to name. But they usually keep their arguments against raising the minimum wage semi-wonky. Wrong, but at least not personally nasty. Not Steve Kush, executive director of the Republican Party of Bernalillo County, New Mexico, though! At a county commission meeting on raising the minimum wage, Kush had this to say about a 19-year-old Working America member there to testify:
@snkush via Facebook
Again, 19 years old, not an employee of an advocacy organization, there to tell her elected representatives on the county commission why she wants to see a higher minimum wage. But Kush didn't stop there. As Working America's state director stood to testify, Kush kept going:
As you might guess, "walking Central" is a reference to a street where prostitutes gather. And Bob Cornelius, the guy who said that? A former executive director of the county Republican party, and a former candidate for state land commissioner.

(110,159 posts)they didnt. they are doing it more now than the past. the one that said "children and vagina's" got called on it pretty quickly by another repug.
I missed that one.. I thought nothing was too over the top for them, but wow...
can't so much blame the GOP for creating the attitudes, but the party attracts people with those attitudes and reinforces them for sure. They come from our culture not a political party.

(110,159 posts)we stay the same.
us women on du that speak out about womens issues are constantly and continuously called radical. not that a single person will point out the "radical" when they use that term. but, yes, it is used often by SOME men on du in order to insult and shut us up.
why do you have an issue me pointing that out.

(12,693 posts)the bigger issue is that elected officials should not be disrespecting ANY constituent. The fact that this is becoming more and more common is yet another sign that the people WE elect to public office see us not as citizens to be served, but subjects to be kept in our place.

(110,159 posts)so really, not much of an insult. the greater insult is an ugly old fart addressing her as if he "could" do her. vomit. he addresses her looks, we address his.
Radical feminists locate the root cause of women's oppression in patriarchal gender relations, as opposed to legal systems (as in liberal feminism) or class conflict (as in socialist feminism and Marxist feminism).
