"If Koch Brothers Buy LA Times, Half of Staff May Quit"

If Koch Brothers Buy LA Times, Half of Staff May Quit

"SNIP..............................

At a Los Angeles Times in-house awards ceremony a week ago, columnist Steve Lopez addressed the elephant in the room.

Speaking to the entire staff, he said, "Raise your hand if you would quit if the paper was bought by Austin Beutner's group." No one raised their hands.

"Raise you hand if you would quit if the paper was bought by Rupert Murdoch." A few people raised their hands.

Facing the elephant trunk-on, "Raise your hand if you would quit if the paper was bought by the Koch brothers." About half the staff raised their hands.

If a person is say..mid-40's with a chronic health condition, they won't.

If there are benefits attached to their job, and if they need that paycheck, they will swallow their pride/anger/loathing/etc, and they will stay.

the kock bros. certainly do have a lot of money to waste. the tribune is way past it`s time. the internet took it`s advertising dollar and people no longer care what the editorial board has to say. they think they will be a force in chicago politics? outsiders have tried to take on the families in chicago politics and lost. outsiders have tried to change chicago `s attitudes about the world in general and have lost. these new outsiders will meet the same fate.

Any self-respecting journalist would be horrified to work for either Murdoch or the Koch Brothers.
