A 19-year-old Berea, Neb., man who suffered from hypothermia and frostbite earlier this month while attempting to rescue his snowbound mother has been released from the hospital.

Brandon Conrad Jr. speaking by telephone from his home said he is “not 100 percent,” but he is doing “pretty good.” Conrad set out April 9 to help his mother, whose vehicle had become stranded in blizzard conditions.

A Nebraska State Patrol official said Conrad “did everything he could” to try to save his mother, Lisa Conrad, before she died of exposure in a snowstorm that pounded the Panhandle.

Lisa Conrad, 37, was coming home from work in Alliance when her car got stuck about one mile south of Berea on U.S. Highway 385.
