Friends of the senator tell National Review that hes been listening to enthusiastic supporters and discussing the possible campaign with associates. We all see a path, and he does, too, one former colleague tells the magazine.
Theres no big surprise here. Conservatives have been buzzing about a potential Cruz candidacy for a while. And while hes new to the Senate, by 2015 he will have spent as much time there as Barack Obama did before launching his first White House campaign. Its already clear that he has no particular love for Congress; last weekend he called some of his Republican colleagues squishes. He might appeal to primary voters who dont like Florida Sen. Marco Rubios (R) immigration plan, a fellow Cuban-American and likely candidate. Sarah Palin, who still has a loyal if limited fan base, is a big fan.
But Cruz would compete for conservative votes with Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), a close ally who has been open about his presidential ambitions.
Hes more viable than folks might think because there was such a national effort to elect him, one Texas GOP consultant told The Fix earlier this year. But even so, no one who is serious is talking about a Cruz presidential in 16.

(2,842 posts)questioners and turn his(maybe) refusal to take part in the RepubliKKKan "debates" as a plus making him look even more "serious".
Money, looks; more money; slick lying telemercials; no unpleasant questions or un stage-managed appearances will get him his 46% Repug base and voter suppression, and a tepid Obama-type candidate in opposition might be enough for him to get elected.
I wouldn't laugh him off; I'd work to oppose and expose him at every chance starting now.

(2,842 posts)they can learn never to be in a situation where they have to think on their feet or appear in circumstances other than what their handlers dictate. I imagine the $$$men have learned a bit in the past few years and will package their candidates even more carefully.

(24,347 posts)His opponents, whether they were Republican or Democrat, would EVISCERATE him if he refused to participate in a debate. His abrasiveness and the fact that even his fellow Republican Senators think he's a little shit would garner him few endorsements, and the money goes with the endorsements. I don't see Sheldon Adelson bankrolling Ted Cruz the way he did Newt Gingrich.
You can't sequester yourself completely from media attention and expect to win a primary, much less a general. He'd have no chance at all.

(45,488 posts)Cruz's mouth will ruin any chance he may have had. He's simply trying to up his griftting game.

(1,186 posts)Will we have to amend the Constitution before he can run. While we're at it, there are a couple of amendments that we could modify too.

(111,267 posts)so unless she renounced her citizenship before he was born, birtherism in his case won't work, either. He's been in the US since he was 4.
Pity.
It's also a pity the family didn't stay in Canada, where national health insurance would have allowed them to get him the mental health care he so desperately needs.

Have we seen his mother's birth certificate?

Or will all that be "water under the bridge"?
Personally I'd love to see this fucked up nutjob run and be qualified to run. He'll burn nice and bright for the far right of the far right and then burn out completely just in time for the general election.
