Anyone here from NC? Do you think she's worth fighting for?

I've been so frustrated and disgusted at the mess in Raleigh with this new Republican legislature that I have been thinking of getting out of here. Koch and Pope money has bought its way into office and the result is the crazy that we're now seeing (voter ID, a state religion and exemption from federal court rules, a state currency, allowing concealed weapons at schools, a bill denying erosion on our beaches/a rise in sea level, rejecting Medicaid expansion, and on and on TOO MANY TO LIST!!).

Well, I saw a commercial yesterday of an old school song that featured pictures of the beauty in this great state and I realized I was wrong. I won't let these hateful fear-mongers run me out of this wonderful, beautiful state that I call home and I hope that you will join me in fighting for her.

If you've traveled west to east and watched the soil go from rocky loam to red clay, then to black dirt and on to white sand, or you've seen the landscape go from rhododendron to oaks and dogwoods and on to the tall tall pines of the east coast with azaleas all along the way, and you felt peace and at home, then fight for her with me. If you've spent time swinging on a porch in the Appalachian Mountains or on a hammock with the breezes from the Atlantic singing you to sleep, then fight for her with me. If you've traveled the back roads and have fallen for its small town sweetness or rejoiced at the cool new restaurants popping up in Asheville, Charlotte, and Raleigh (that feature locally grown goodness!!) then fight for her! She's ours, too, and we've got to bring her back around before it's too late.

Share this link with everyone you know so they can get in touch and find out what is needed to make it happen. That time is now, not a month before election day. I'm hoping the next time I write about North Carolina, it is with the good news that we've added awesome Democrats to the NC State Leg and we can start fixing the mess!

I like calling North Carolina Home.

It is CRUCIAL to stay on top of every news outlet in this state to keep them from rubber-stamping this fast-tracking of the Koch Brothers-Art Pope-TeaParty Pat McCrory's fascist agenda.

we need to remember that.

More important than all of those reasons I've listed up there are the people of this state, and we've got to go to work for them. 2008 felt like we were on the road up and out but we got knocked back down in '12. We need to keep scrambling.

I hate when people tell us to move. Tell others to boycott the state, etc. NO! It's dismissive to those who have been working to change things.

We need to keep educating people, keep getting non-Republicans to run for office, keep registering people to vote, keep talking to younger people who don't have the same prejudices of the older generations. The alternative is not acceptable.

it made me extremely sad. We have so much to offer and we're already starting so suffer from economic mistakes these guys are making. I didn't add that they've voted to take tax breaks away from future TV and movie productions that come to the state. After a couple great years of filming in NC we can see that leave us and go to ----Atlanta! D'oh!

filming is doing well in Georgia as of late.

A local town square can be turned into any time period and the surrounding businesses are booming.

mountains, beaches, and the 'big' city. Take away the tax incentives and we could see the end of what has been pretty fun filming growth the past couple years (Hunger Games, Iron Man, etc).

The North Carolina State Toast:

Here's to the land of the long leaf pine,
The summer land where the sun doth shine,
Where the weak grow strong and the strong grow great,
Here's to "Down Home," the Old North State!
Here's to the land of the cotton bloom white,
Where the scuppernong perfumes the breeze at night,
Where the soft southern moss and jessamine mate,
'Neath the murmuring pines of the Old North State!
Here's to the land where the galax grows,
Where the rhododendron's rosette glows,
Where soars Mount Mitchell's summit great,
In the "Land of the Sky," in the Old North State!
Here's to the land where maidens are fair,
Where friends are true and cold hearts rare,
The near land, the dear land, whatever fate,
The blessed land, the best land, the Old North State!

She is worth fighting for
