Supposed to gust to 60 mph tomorrow. Gonna be a rough couple of days for a lot of folks. Evacuations already taking place.
For those who don't know, Banning is on Interstate 10 west of Palm Springs.
UPDATE: Seems as though the first news reader they put on the TV misspoke. It's 1500 acres not 2500. Sorry for jumping the gun and not checking before posting.
2nd UPDATE: Wow that was fast. Fire has jumped the first set of hills and there is now a reported vegetation fire near Seven Oaks, CA. That's the place where Murderin' Christopher Dorner was cornered and killed himself.

(24,853 posts)There seems to be no chance at all to get even 10% containment this evening. The air drops will stop after dark and then it's anybody's guess what happens next. There is already another fire burning along Hwy 38 near where Christopher Dorner killed himself. All winds and fires moving to the northwest toward Bear Valley. Not good.

(24,853 posts)The inspector wanted to write me up for an oil leak as he saw a drop of oil on the ground. I argued with him for 20 minutes that my truck wasn't likely to leak engine oil from the front suspension.
Then he wanted to write me up for not logging the inspection time... and the inspection wasn't over yet.
They are penises to be sure. Yes, if it burns, I know at least two people who won't shed a tear.

(15,189 posts)Would be to use back hoes to dig fire lines, or give them a shovel. We always get so many overworked fire crews when this shit happens, why not use the military. Leave most of the local fires to the fire department since they have been cut. But for these huge fires we should use everything we have. Besides, it would give more experience for those looking to join after the military, and some who never even thought about it, and they like the job.

I wouldn't have minded when I was in the Navy. It would have been an adventure.
