(111,098 posts)or compromising? If someone wants to shoot me, I sure as hell am not going to give them more bullets...
I don't mean to be critical. I mean this in a constructive way. People get angry sometimes when they don't agree with you.
But the President is too good to a fault. He wants to govern and the Republicans want to play politics. He wants to solve problems and they want to clog up the system. They are at loggerheads and never shall the twain meet.
Therefore, what are his options? Piecemeal legislation? Give the Repubs the Air Traffic Control funds and maybe they will give him Meals on Wheels? But they already have the ATC's so when can he expect the Meals on Wheels" Or Headstart?
Is it wrong to point this out? Or does this make people angry and say that you are just looking for something to criticize the President about? I think this is something that needs to be discussed and I thank you for making your other post about suggestions for the President?
I hope we can agree not to call each other names and work toward something we can all agree upon. But maybe I am a lot like the President?

(17,301 posts)While it is really what he wants to do all along. He said he wanted a public option in the health care debate but never even asked the supporters of a public option to the table to be heard.
He said he wanted to raise the cap on SS but never even proposed such an idea in ANY of his speeches.
He said that he wanted Gitmo closed and signed an Executive Order ordering it done. It was blocked by congress and he just forgot about it.
He said "Sunshine is the best disinfectant" and that he wanted more transparency in the government, Yet he has prosecuted more whistle blowers than ANY other President in history.
He said he would investigate the financial collapse yet not even one banker has been investigated or jailed.
I can go on and on but I think my point has been made.
I believe that this President has done exactly what he wanted to do all along and is only using the Republicans as cover.
Just saying........
Don't get me wrong I worked on both of his campaigns to get him elected, but as Dr Cornell West has said "I will be your biggest supporter to get you elected and the day after you win I will be your biggest critic" I feel the same way.
Mr. President do not just talk a good game,..... DO IT!

(136 posts)As those are my questions which fuel concerns as to what he is about. He frames the issues relating to where the country is today and speaks to what action should be taken to address these issues. But after four years, the fifth year appears to be just a continuation of the previous. He has set goals, but the objectives as to reaching those goals seem to be be lacking.
If the only goal of the Republicans is to obstruct
the President even to the point of damaging the country, then what is the point of continuing to reach a compromise? Regardless of why they want to obstruct, because he is black, I am sure that would be on their list. Because he is a Democrat, yes.
Where does he go ftom here? Hope that 2014 gives different results? Continue to pander to the Republicans? No, not in my world, call the Republican party out, name individuals by name, single out specific Republicans for defeat. Use the " bully pulpit " to savage the Republican party collectively and individually.
As Sen. Toomey indicated, many Republicans voted against the firearms background checks just so they did not appear to support the President. Really, so they will let many Americans die and suffer because they dislike a black, Democratic President. I would set their houses on fire.

(13,409 posts)You especially nail it right here: He said "Sunshine is the best disinfectant" and that he wanted more transparency in the government, Yet he has prosecuted more whistle blowers than ANY other President in history.
This right here shows his hypocrisy more than anything. Not only has he prosecuted more whistle blowers than any other President in history, but he's used the Espionage Act to go after whistleblowers more than every other President in history COMBINED. And sadly, it's the point most often neglected by critics of the president on BOTH sides of the aisle. I'm very tired of the same rhetoric coming from the president with absolutely zero change in policy.

(12,904 posts)Their corporate bosses don't care what color the president is, as long as the president is a republican. I am certain that they would have employed the exact same stupid strategy had Hillary Clinton been elected. Obstruction is really the only option that the Republicans have. In my opinion, the Republican obstruction strategy could potentially have been much more effective against Sec. Clinton, as they would also have had several more options available as targets. Her spouse, her time as First Lady, her gender, etc.
I think that one of President Obama's greatest accomplishments, and it's an ongoing accomplishment, has been the masterful job he has done to reveal the true Republican agenda of take from the poor and give to the rich. And, he has done this slowly, methodically, and with grinding effectiveness, without ever raising his voice. And he's still got four more years to kick their mange-y Republican asses up and down Pennsylvania Avenue!

(82,383 posts)Even the ordinary functioning of the government. They can't deal with the idea of a black man being President - it upsets their world view. They are punishing the country for it. Which is why people should have Obama's back rather than letting the Republicans get away with this by blaming the President.

(37,648 posts)AND millions of citizens...trying to slow the economy and cause suffering among millions, businesses failing. All that matters is that they and their fat cat donors win win win...so they can make more more more money.
That's all it's about for them. No patriotism, not even serving all their constituents...just the fat cats.
It's sickening and disgusting. And the voters are letting them do it! Stupid people.

(2,561 posts)Then the one percent will have complete control of the world's biggest imperial power.
President Obama is merely slowing down the agenda begun under Reagan, continued under Clinton (NAFTA, deregulation of the banking system and the media), and accelerated under Bush.
One has to clearly see the big picture.

(10,597 posts)... and Yeah! Rah!! babylonsister!!! for bringing this to us. We need to send this to Harry Reid. What we really need to do is buy one of those skeletal models of a human spine and send it to Harry. I think it would be a good award to give out once a year to a Democrat in both the House and Senate who showed the most backbone. "The Deval Patrick Golden Backbone Award."

Their reason is, and always was, that they hate their constituents.

Whats really happening here, as the Daily Beasts Michael Tomasky writes, is that the Republican Party has departed from traditional norms of political behavior. He notes that the GOP has become a radical oppositionalist faction, way beyond the normal American parameters both in terms of ideology and tactics.
In other words, the GOP doesnt behave like a party should it isnt trying to govern, and it doesnt have a particular agenda. It opposes Barack Obamas presence in the White House, and will do anything kill its own proposals, hold the economy hostage to damage his standing with the public. How do you bend a party to your will when it has decided that its only self-interested course of action is to deny you all cooperation at all costs?

(57,936 posts)recent times. Well, not exactly saying it out loud, but coming close. It's time to stop attempting to cooperate with Republicans and simply realize that they will do anything, even ruining our country, to prevent Obama from succeeding.
This is utterly shameful. It takes a lot to make me angry, but this does.
