Reid To GOP: Come To The Table For A Budget Deal

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) on Monday reiterated his call for Republicans to come to the negotiating table to resolve the two chambers' differences on the budget, which GOP leaders have so far refused to do.

"We passed a budget resolution under regular order," Reid said on the floor. "But still the House has refused to [go] to conference with us. Since they got what they claimed they wanted, their interest in regular order has just waned -- it disappeared."

He accused the Senate GOP over providing "political cover" for House Republicans, who he speculated were "afraid" to come to the table and defend their budget policies.

Reid sought unanimous consent to initiate a budget conference but, noting that no Republicans were around to accept or reject, withdrew the request.
