Amanda, Georgina and Michelle: What happens next?

The media keeps saying what good news it is the three women have been found. Yes, it is good that Amanda Berry, Georgina de Jesus, and Michelle Knight are now free from captivity and will soon be back with their families. I can't help thinking, however, about the tremendous trauma they've been through. Imprisoned for ten years, repeatedly raped and forced to give birth to a rapist's child. How does someone get through an experience like this? How will they be able to once again live normal lives? I can't comprehend going through that level of trauma. My heart breaks for them.

and I think kidnapping 2 children and holding 3 women in captivity for a prolonged period while using them as sex toys is going to result in very long sentences, they will likely be able to start to heal. The ones with children can work very hard to make sure the kids don't remember Daddy.

Believe it or not, people have been able to heal enough to live decent lives after a mess like this and the publicity dies down. Name changes help, reporters unable to track them down periodically to sell the story again and rub salt into the wounds.

What concerns me the most is that their condition was listed as "fair." That speaks to me of malnutrition at best and signs of frequent beatings at worst. I know what it takes to qualify for that sort of condition rating from a hospital.

I just hope nobody offers those lowlifes a deal that will get them out of prison before their peckers die.

but I hope these women are. They are still alive, which speaks to their survival skills.

6. You'd be surprised. I was privileged to know quite a few Holocaust survivors

in Boston years ago and most of them had managed to put decent lives together after years of atrocity in those camps and losing the rest of their families.

All lived their eventual freedom to the fullest, as these young women will likely do once their kidnappers are locked away and they manage to process the fact that they and their children are finally safe.
