Steven King (R - Asshole); "Benghazi is Iran Contra + Watergate x 10."

Good god, what is wrong with these people? The GOP's failure to fund security for a remote consulate, and Hillary Clinton's apparent refusal to "do something" are 10x WORSE than the premeditated criminal activity of Reagan and Nixon? Really? We don't even need to discuss the illegal warring and torture conducted by G.W. Bush.

The Republicans are absolutely desperate for anything to bring Obama down.

1. Why did Steven King think it OK for Bush to block investigation of 9-11 for an entire year?

And why did Bush not want 9-11 investigated at all?

"According to Senator Bob Graham, who was chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee from June 2001 through the buildup to the Iraq war, "Two of the September 11, 2001, hijackers had a support network in the United States that included agents of the Saudi government, and the Bush administration and FBI blocked a congressional investigation into that relationship," as reported by the Miami Herald. And in Graham's book, Intelligence Matters, he makes clear that some details of that financial support from Saudi Arabia were in the 27 pages of the congressional inquiry's final report that were blocked from release by the administration, despite the pleas of leaders of both parties on the House and Senate intelligence committees."[44] In March 2012 as part of a lawsuit by 9/11 victims families Graham and another former U.S. Senator Bob Kerry said in affidavit's that they were certain there were direct links between the Saudi government and the attacks."

It's obvious to any sentient American that there is no "there" there. But that won't stop Republicans from treating this as a real controversy. The facts that the Republicans never were concerned about holding hearings on 9/11 where 3000 Americans died or that they killed legislation to increase embassy funding don't register on the reptilian brains of their base.

5. They need Benghazi because re-re-re-re-investigating Vonce Foster's death won't work anymore

The RWNJs are even explicitly making the comparison. I won't link to the source below, but if you want to see the original just run a search on a line or two of the text.

During the Foster death investigations, like Benghazi, investigators were also thwarted, stonewalled, and unable to perform their jobs
The Fix is in: Hillary’s Benghazi cover-up—like Vince Foster death investigation

***
It was on July 20, 1993 when Vince Foster, President Bill Clinton’s childhood friend and Hillary Clinton’s closest White House confidante, was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in the head in Fort Marcy Park, Virginia. Before a preliminary investigation began, Americans were told by White House officials and President Clinton that Vince Foster committed suicide in Fort Marcy Park, nobody saw it coming, and it would remain a “mystery”—the cohesive strategy crafted in Hillary’s White House counsel’s office. Clinton Press Secretary Dee Dee Myers even stated: “the Park Service Police is the only agency that’s investigating (Vince Foster’s death), and that the objective of their search is simply to determine that it was a suicide.”

The fix was in. The objective of the investigation into Vince Foster’s death, the highest ranking government official’s death since President John Kennedy was assassinated, was “simply to determine that it was a suicide (emphasis mine).” The conclusion was predetermined. The cohesive strategy stuck as “truth” and they got away with it. Homicide, foul play, the possibility of blackmail, a potential risk to America’s national security, was never investigated. No need for the Clinton White House to cooperate with investigators or the media. They didn’t. Case closed. Move on….

And now Hillary Clinton and the Obama White House are following the same cover-up playbook in Benghazi.

At first, I was going to title my post "That's Ridiculous" and then go on to explain the ridiculousness of Representative King's comment. Then I realized that although Rep. King's comment is ridiculous he is most likely well aware of the ridiculousness of his comment, but is playing to the ignorant crowd. It is possible that Rep. King did not make his comment because he is unaware of the events surrounding Iran Contra and Watergate. He probably made those comments because he knows there are a number of people who are actually unaware of the events of Iran Contra and Watergate. Rep. King probably knows that at least a small segment of those who are not aware of Iran Contra and Watergate will just take his word for the idea that Benghazi is 10 times worse than Iran Contra and watergate. It seems that Rep. King and some other Republicans have taken up President Bush II's debate/policy strategy of focusing on those individuals you can fool all of the time.

Death panels, Benghazi, FEMA camps, birthers, tax increases will bankrupt the job creators who will leave the USA, climate change is a hoax, intelligent design, the list goes on and on. All thinking people realize that all that is just made up to push an agenda that benefits the 1%.
