(10,457 posts)It seemed like there was a big elephant in the room and he kept walking around it. I'm wondering if any New York parade for the troops would be a big terrorist target, and they're trying to gloss it over?

I think it would be one more slap in the face to the vietnam vets. It could be that. Didn't catch the show so I am just guessing.

(53,339 posts)The big parade for the Iranian hostages, when VN vets hadn't had one (and didn't get a big parade until Chicago '86) did sting at the time. But VN vets have been in plenty of parades since then, including the recent St. Louis parade to welcome home Iraq War vets. That's really not an issue today.

That or the fear that it would attract terrorist acts -- or more likely, that it would not attract terrorist acts and then those who capitalize on the fear of terrorism would have to explain why it did not.
