Pre-publicity TV interview: http://www.omahamorningblend.com/videos/205950901.html
I worked Omaha's Film Event (#32 charity event) "Carousel" again last night. Shirley looks as beautiful as ever.
Instead of standing behind the podium, she came out front with a microphone and told trivia of her career for some time. Then they turned up the house lights and she took questions. She answered every one. She really put on a show for the fans.
Gordon MacRae's daughter Mandy also spoke. After Gordon retired he moved to Nebraska and sang the national anthem at NU football games. Oklahoma fans hated that when they were in town.
During the film, Ms Jones spoke to everyone that stopped by just to see her, take a photo, or get autographs. The AC in the museum fountain court was cranked up. So she wore a coat and had an electric heater blowing on her from behind. That is a trooper.
The fountain:
Near the end of the autograph line, a fan waiting his turn said they were from out of town. He introduced me to his mother Elizabeth. He mentioned she was a dancer in the film and is on the lobby card she brought to get signed. I rushed over to Cassie (a coordinator) and told her we had to get the video crew back in the court to get an interview. Next she sat down with Shirley. Elizabeth got autograph requests. She was flabbergasted by the attention she got from those that were still in the house. You should have seen the smile on her face. She danced in over 50 films including a few with Elvis.
Elizabeth is sitting on the right of this lobbycard:
Rising artist Nicolosi made his eighth art work for the event, a collectable postage envelope work. Here is his "To Kill a Mockingbird" art info info: http://www.southernliterarytrail.org/tkam-usps-envelope.html

The park is open at the moment, has been for about a year, but since its inception has been closed every time Shirley and Marty get angry with the community, which is about 6 times. The last time it was closed, they fitted some of the trees in the park with closed-circuit cameras and threatened to prosecute anyone found inside the fence with criminal trespass. I used to have a picture of the sign but cannot find it now.

(81,323 posts)with my son during high school. The daughter was at the sister school to my son's school. The schools always teamed up for stuff like that.
So, one night, Shirley Jones came to one of their productions. She couldn't have been more gracious. We had flowers for her during a little welcoming presentation before the show, and she accepted them with charm and delight. She stayed for the whole play. She applauded heartily for everyone at the end. She and her party made her way out, very slowly, stopping to talk with and take photos with ANYONE who came up to her, whether it was the young cast, or audience members - other students, parents, teachers, and staff. She was, of course, swamped with well-wishers and people wanting to thank her for coming. She was lovely and congenial to everyone she met! It was such a class act.
Now THAT is a star.
I used to like her a lot, for her gorgeous singing voice and her acting. Then I saw her with civilians and other assorted "non-pros" and decided I personally admired her a lot, too!
