Bill Kristol in RW Weekly Standard: Doesn’t Matter If Holder Stays or Goes (GOP FAIL)

Doesn’t Matter If Holder Stays or Goes

By WILLIAM KRISTOL

A longtime friend and savvy D.C. veteran emails with these worthwhile thoughts

<...>

Calls to sack Holder create a useless side show from the main event--a “breathtaking and systematic abuse of power by the Obama administration” that is only a taste of what a full agenda implementation will hold for America (Obamacare, EPA regulooza, and most important and pernicious, an unholy, unspoken, dog whistle relationship between the White House and federal agencies like the IRS).

Focusing on the fate of Eric Holder could create the catharsis Obama and his allies (the media) need to “reset” and return to business as usual.

Sacking Holder would inebriate the home team for a weekend, cause the usual “backlash” in the media—guilt, remorse and regret focused on the embattled Obama—and ... return to the status quo ante.

If and when Holder packs it in, R's should shrug and say, “it's his choice, doesn't matter or change things, stay or go, the real issues are those listed above...”

Guess Kristol figured out the Holder attacks aren't working. Back to trying to target Obama.

Holder knows the ropes. The noisemakers' goal is to indict Holder in an attempt to weaken Obama.

The RW was able to launch investigation after investigation during the Clinton years. Thus far all they've been able to do is blow smokes.

They want Holder fired because they don't like him or disagree with the actions he has taken, which are lawful in terms of being AG and reflective of administration policy where appropriate.

deal about it." The repugs are known for overplaying their hand, and I think this is nothing but a warning shot across the bow.

I'd agree with that except that there are now calls from both left and right for him to resign. I'm not sure he can withstand the pressure from both sides of the isle. It really depends on the stance that President Obama takes. If he thinks the AG is becoming too much of a liability, then I'd think he would ask him to resign. Time will tell, I guess.

such thing, and you know it. I said he was receiving pressure from both the left and right to resign. I also said that it may or may not happen depending on the faith that President Obama has in him. Those are facts that have been expressed by both Democrats and Republicans. How you extrapolate that into pushing a RW frame is beyond me. But go for it, if it makes you feel better.

I said, "Buying into RW frames" in response to comment #2.

It was mean as a response to this:

"I'd agree with that except that there are now calls from both left and right for him to resign. I'm not sure he can withstand the pressure from both sides of the isle. It really depends on the stance that President Obama takes. If he thinks the AG is becoming too much of a liability, then I'd think he would ask him to resign. Time will tell, I guess. "

I should have quoted the relevant part to avoid confusion. My response was to indicate that some on the left are buying into RW frames, not you specifically.
