Yet it makes perfect sense why they had to die. It demonstrates that every character in this series is disposable, and makes you worry for everyone, even the "main" protagonists like Jon and Dany. Just like in real life.

Besides, the throne belongs to the rightful Targaryen heir. One less usurper to deal with.
