If the government was mining data from American businesses...?

The Patriot Act would be gone tomorrow.

Supporters of the government policy of data mining cannot adequately explain why the government needs all this information if it is useless and of no benefit to them? Why do they need to spy on everyone? And what do they do with the information? Is it stored or destroyed?

Also, many are under the mistaken impression that the President and our Congress are sworn to protect the people of the United States? That is not true. They swear to protect the Constitution of the United States. They do not swear to break the laws of the Constitution in order to protect the people. They are operating under a confused principle.
