A lot of folks invite spying, by utilizing Facebook, LinkedIn, and the Internet in general, like

Posting on public forums

The Boston bombers were helped not only by witnesses, but in no small part by cameras

Every time we go to a store, bank, or even turn on our cell phone we are being monitored, and have been for sometime

This has been going on for sometime now. Way before the patriot act

Just an observation

nobody has a choice in this matter we are concerned about. you would understand this unless you were purposefully being obtuse. not rocket science. there is no valid point to be made by stating this unless you are hoping people are not thinking rationally and will use this as a reason for how they shouldn't complain and be ok with this other stuff

It is also more than just the government that gathers your information

ISPs, search engines, all kinds of information is collected by the government and large corporations on us. That spam you get, or that ad you see on DU is based on sites you have visited

People need to be aware, and many are not

Is private. It already is out of control, and has been for a long time. This is more than just government intrusion, it is corporate intrusion, and I see nothing legislatively that will fix it soon with the politicians that are here now

I wear a mask (that's not me in the picture), and I fake a French accent. And none of my friends are terrorists. I think. But I am really worried because I've been ordering pizzas at midnight for the old guy next door for over 20 years. I'm afraid they'll come get me.

Member of the communist party?

" answer the question "

This is a forum, you can ask instead of demand

I started a discussion and you seem to be disturbed that I brought it up, because somehow by your question I somehow must be for it

I answered your question, you should have asked nicely instead of demanding it

Taken collectively, your posts in this thread, and in a few others made me think you were attempting to spin this as something less than the serious breach of trust this is with the American public.

And you're right about the asking-v-demanding thing. I'm feeling very strident about this issue, and I let it get the better of me. I'm sorry for presenting my question/demand in a pushy way, and again, thanks for your answer.

Progressives/liberals are pretty consistent in their condemnation of this no matter which side of the aisle it occurs.

Another observation I have observed is sometimes blind alligence to a party. Similar to the philosophy by many during the Vietnam Nam war, my country right or wrong.

There has to be some basic standards that a person believes in, otherwise it is either just political gamesmanship

One of the few people in congress who represents what the Democratic Party should be is Bernie Sanders, and he isn't even a Democrat

I can go to watch a Youtube video, and it'll call me by my gmail account name. It's watching me.

WIPE OUT YOUR COOKIES.

Facebook? I don't do it. Well, I have a fake name for an acct, so I could access something or other, but I never use it, and I'm not that fictitious person.

Yahoo. Yahoo has long been notorious for being dangerous. It's easily hacked into, and is done on a somewhat regular basis, is my understanding. I've gotten spam e-mails from supposed friends with Yahoo accounts, but they didn't send the spam; their accounts were hacked into and used to send out e-mails under their accounts. Don't Yahoo. Except to have a holding email account to use for signing up for stuff or whatever...but never send any e-mails from it, or it'll be used to send spam emails pretending to be from you.

in secret (NSA), by a secret court (FISA) and with court orders that are secret. Plus, the non-secret Supreme Court have said that I, as an American, have no standing to stop this spying because I can't prove they are spying on me because it's secret.

And the government says "Trust us! We're only spying on the bad guys!" Okay. Prove it! We can't because it's secret.

But the Congress is providing oversight! Can we see what kind of oversight they are doing on FISA? No! It's secret!
