He's in Hong Kong. There are a number of others with the same name, and we've seen what happens when people go searching for people's names. His location is known, and I'm just posting it to forestall people finding the wrong person with that name.

Others will probably not pay any attention. There are at least three Facebookers with that name. It's likely to be a problem for them. I've seen that happen before when some name is released.

I clicked the link after reading that the source had revealed himself, and found that he was in Hong Kong. I posted to make sure people knew that, and didn't start looking at the many others with that name.

Jun 2013
In the three weeks since he arrived, he has been ensconced in a hotel room. "I've left the room maybe a total of three times during my entire stay," he said. It is a plush hotel and, what with eating meals in his room too, he has run up big bills.

He is deeply worried about being spied on. He lines the door of his hotel room with pillows to prevent eavesdropping. He puts a large red hood over his head and laptop when entering his passwords to prevent any hidden cameras from detecting them.

Also, not the sharpest knife in the drawer:

After that, he got his first job in an NSA facility, working as a security guard for one of the agency's covert facilities at the University of Maryland. From there, he went to the CIA, where he worked on IT security. His understanding of the internet and his talent for computer programming enabled him to rise fairly quickly for someone who lacked even a high school diploma.

By 2007, the CIA stationed him with diplomatic cover in Geneva, Switzerland. His responsibility for maintaining computer network security meant he had clearance to access a wide array of classified documents

Fanatic narcissist - Including paranoid features

An individual whose self-esteem was severely arrested during childhood, who usually displays major paranoid tendencies, and who holds on to an illusion of omnipotence. These people are fighting delusions of insignificance and lost value, and trying to re-establish their self-esteem through grandiose fantasies and self-reinforcement. When unable to gain recognition or support from others, they take on the role of a heroic or worshipped person with a grandiose mission.

They should not be bothered by anyone. That happens a lot when a name is released, without enough information to identify which person with that name is the person being discussed.

The one in the story is currently in Hong Kong. That's the only information I'm posting.

Sun Jun 9, 2013, 05:09 PM
Jun 2013

He did not have a high school diploma. After the Army, he got a job in physical security with the CIA. Then got into IT system security.

He probably has a combination of on-the-job training and self taught skills around how to adminster security and maintain the operating sytem and LAN operations of Windows and/or Unix servers and workstations. He could have become extremely skilled, and therefore well paid, especially with his clearances, but I'd bet that his expertise is highly practical and narrow.

The documents were probably stored on the file servers he had access to. A flaw in many operating systems is that once you have administrator or root privileges, you also have the privileges of other users. An administrator should have access only to the commands, programs, and data needed to carry out the adminstration tasks.

Its almost parallel to script kiddie hackers who are self-taught about programming, operating systems, security, etc.
