Math and Logic applied to our "War on Terror"

Let's see - a recent Thom Hartmann show discussed Obama saying one of his most important jobs is "keeping Americans Safe", and after that, protecting the Constitution.

Thom pointed out that nowhere in the Constitution does the President have the job of "keeping us safe". It is pretty explicit that a big part of his job is to uphold and defend THE CONSTITUTION! (Isn't that the oath for service in all three branches - to uphold the Constitution?)

THE MATH
3000 Americans died on 9-11
Since 2000, there are approximately 30,000 deaths per year by firearms

Starting at 1-1-02 to 1-1-12 (to make this a nice easy number 10), we AVERAGE 300 terrorism related deaths per year. (the 9-11-01 3000 dead is used here for the math) and we average 30,000 dead by firearms.

So, for this ten year period, we lost 3,000 to terrorism and 300,000 to firearms.

The most recent Congressional attempt for background check and high capacity magazine legislation seems to indicate, in terms of magnitude, our elected representatives DON'T REALLY GIVE A RATS ASS about keeping American's safe. IF THEY DID, we would currently be enjoying the firearms mortality statistics of Great Britain or Japan!

So, for this ten year block, we've lost 100 souls to guns for every soul lost to terrorism. Our governments justifications for violating our Constitutional rights to keep us safe are out of balance by a factor of 100 to 1.

And this is only firearms. The actual number of "preventable" deaths per year in the US is 1.85 million.

It's almost like there's really a more important secret reason for nullifying our Constitutional Rights. If the magnitude of the problem is measured by the number of deaths the problem causes, then fighting terrorism should be about 87th on their "Keep Americans Safe" To-Do list.

It turns out when you look at that, just about the only person at high level addressing the real issues ( with her push for gardens / fruits /veggies in diet) is Michele Obama! Thousands of times more people die from the issues she's talking about than the ones Obama and the rest of the anti-terror crowd is.
