with a feeling of betrayal by those who had sworn to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America. But what does one bitty person know?

Not. Gonna. Happen.

Politicians WILL NOT give up any power they had when they took office. Ever.

Just my opinion of course.

off Left and Right. Revelations like the recent NSA abuses make both ends of the political spectrum angry and nervous.

September 11 thinking that would happen.
And that there would be no opposition to it. And there never really has been.
And it's all too easy to be accused of being a terrorist, or up to no good if you were to speak out against the so called Patriot act.
It's title should be an act giving up all your constitutional rights for the sake of 'security' which is what we say it is.
Now, don't you feel safer already?

Then I supported revocation/deauthorization.

Then I supported NOT extending it.

How are you going to get behind it? Are you going to withhold votes from those in Congress who fail to act?

I haven't found letters/emails/phone calls/demonstrations to be effective when it comes to moving Congress.

Every other conversation around here seems to turn into a circular firing squad. It might help to focus on areas of general agreement, rather than continually tearing one another down.

1. Tell us how many -and to what extent- terrorist activities have been prevented because of the Patriot Act. Broken down by year.

2. Start closing our military bases around the world and announce that we will do as little meddling in international affairs as possible.

elect solid Democratic majorities in Congress. That's going to take a lot of hard work.

On the other hand, you could start a petition somewhere. I think my idea will work better, though.
