He joins other Republicans who are on the same page as Obama on this, such as Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-SC), Congressman Mike Rogers (R-MI), and House member Michael McCaul (R-Texas), and Senators Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) and John McCain (R-Ariz). The Wall Street Journal Editorial Staff also adds its enthusiastic support.

Karl Rove supports NSA surveillance
Former Bush adviser Karl Rove is defending the National Security Agencys data collection, saying its needed to keep the country safe and has bipartisan support.
Appearing Thursday on On the Record with Greta Van Susteren, Rove said he couldnt compare the current surveillance efforts to those implemented under President George W. Bush, but added that such programs were essential to the war on terror.
To identify patterns of phone calls between individuals here and individuals abroad, and then you identify the patterns of phone calls inside this country that allows the intelligence agencies to identify connections between people abroad and people at home. And as we saw in the Boston Marathon bombing incident, home-grown terrorists or terrorists who are sleeper cells inside the United States are a threat, Rove said.

He said Americans who are concerned about the surveillance should take comfort that both Republicans and Democrats on the Senate Intelligence Committee had praised it. Other problems with the White House shouldnt cloud Americans view of intelligence gathering, Rove said.

Rove is the "pal" of anyone believing his psyops BS.
Why people keep falling for it is beyond me.

(35,361 posts)but I heard of this years ago. I heard that there was a capability to monitor every telephone conversation by computer and if you would say certain key words that could be considered somehow to be a threat to national security it would alert the authorities. I think I just assumed they were doing it since they had the capability. Myself I have no problem with it and nothing to hide, if it prevents one terrorist act it is worth it to me.

I grant that dotting the "I's" and crossing the "T's" has been upgraded but still miss the point by just a wide margin or worse a warrant for "EVERYONE on Verizon" or any such bullshit is more akin to mockery than getting under a sane line with the constitution. Dragnet bullshit done in secret which also denies us any ability to face our accusers.
Fig leaves and some "we'll make it legal" style legislation to cover up the same bullshit isn't fixing the problems, it is transactional smoke and mirrors a little up the scale from a shitty ass Yoo memo and little more.
