Nelson Mandela is not dead.

http://www.smh.com.au/world/nelson-mandela-victim-of-death-hoax-on-twitter-20130610-2nz1k.html

In fact, Mandela remains in hospital in Pretoria with a lung infection and is in a "serious but stable condition", according to the latest information from South Africa's president, Jacob Zuma.

But a Twitter account imitating that of CNN host Piers Morgan tweeted the incorrect "breaking news" that the apartheid leader had died.

It was quickly re-tweeted more than 1300 times.

But a closer look at the account, which carries the same Twitter image as Morgan's, reveals that it is a parody account using the handle @piersrnorgan.

I sent an alert about the thread, indicating there was no confirming link to the "statement", constituting a violation of the DU Terms of Service. I got a reply that the thread has now been locked.

I was so sad when I saw the comment of Mandela's death. I hope he fully recovers and lives an even longer life.

I Remember when Mandela came to Los Angeles. I met him as a child, humble man. I will never forget, he was one of the reason I got into liberal politics.

Alive

At 92 years old, I would wish him a long life... Er, Much longer life.

Maybe we all ought to have one of these pages to avoid those embarrassing inaccurate Twitter posts.
