Even in 2001

and possibly even in September 2001, we lost more people to gun violence than to terrorism. In an average year we lose 10 times as many people to gun violence than we did on 9/11. Now, just think of how different our daily lives our now than they were on 9/11 thanks to steps we took to minimize or end lives being lost to terrorism. Flying is completely different. Gone are the days one could fly without an ID, without taking ones shoes off, with over 3 oz of liquid, with blades over 4 in., have non ticketed people see you off or greet your arrival, and a whole host of other things. Our phone records now reside in government data bases with frankly very few people upset at all. We fought two wars with thosands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of foreigners dead. We have a President who uses killer robots to zap both Americans and foreigners dead with virtually no one caring.

Contrast that with guns. Even such simple ideas as not permitting those on the no fly list to buy explosives or guns, no dice. How about outright banning straw buying and using stings to enforce that ban, no dice again. How about requiring a backround check for any gun sale no matter where it takes place, by whom it is sold, or the relationship between buyer and seller, again no dice. How about banning the buying of more than one, or ten, or even a hundred guns a month, no dice. How about a database of how many guns are sold by licenced dealers (not to whom mind you, merely how many) no dice. How about requiring licenced gun dealers to report guns they lose or have stolen, no dice. How about banning the sale of guns aimed at 5 year olds, no dice on that either.

Now remember, guns kill each and every year, 10 times as many as we lost on 9/11, but guns are literally untouchable in this society. The 4th Amendment, not so much.
