Victory for Science in Kentucky schools!

Take that Koch suckers!

http://www.kyforward.com/our-schools/2013/06/06/kentucky-board-of-education-approves-next-generation-science-standards/

"The Kentucky Board of Education approved the Next-Generation Science Standards (NGSS) at its meeting Wednesday.

A coalition of 26 states including Kentucky developed the standards; they identify science and engineering practices and content that all K-12 students should master in order to be fully prepared for college and careers. The science standards are based on the National Research Council’s Framework for K-12 Science Education: Practices, Crosscutting Concepts and Core Ideas. According to reports, they also include updates on evolution and climate change that have drawn criticisms.

The NGSS have been in development for two years and meet the requirements for new standards mandated by Senate Bill 1 (2009). The science standards are internationally benchmarked, rigorous, research-based and aligned with expectations for college and careers. They provide for deeper understanding of content and application."

I know the lobbyist will try to dilute this, but they will have to contend with us.

Somehow I suspect that NCSE is helping on this, too.

So I will use my response here to promote the National Center for Science Education and their soon to retire executive director Eugenie Scott, whose steady hand has steered the NCSE for over a quarter of a century.

Here she is:

Hope I am not highjacking your thread.
