Could be, or he was hired to make this leak for whatever purpose. I can think of a few backstories that are as plausible as a guy Forrest Gumping his way from janitor to analyst in a few years.

Obama gave a speech 2 weeks ago calling for the end of the AUMF. The MIC has a history of not behaving well when Presidents do things like that.
