Yeah, I've had it happen back on DU2 and got my ass handed to me and no I'm not linking to it even if I could find it.
I've had my thinking changed several times by that sort of thing, make an assumption and make an ass of myself.
Most of the time these days I manage to get my brain engaged before I hit <enter> but every now and then...

(6,045 posts)How many people have me on ignore...Or what about others? For instance, can I see how many people have you on ignore? Which means you could do the same to me.
Just curious, thanks.

(17,183 posts)The procedure was posted a while back, and I found out that two people didn't care for me at all, so I promptly forgot about it altogether (it made me cry and disrupted my internal digestive processes and produced large amounts of gas).
I'm know it's there. You might have to fish around a bit to find it. Sorry I can't be more help.

(6,045 posts)I do not see that on my profile page.

(1,870 posts)It took me a while to find it too after they changed the way it looks.
It was kinda hidden while being right in front of my face! LOL!
So, I guess one must have 5 post hidden by jury vote in the past 90 days before others can see their Transparency page & see how many Star Members have them on ignore.
I have had one post hidden by jury vote but it was a long time ago. Of course I did not agree with the jury! LOL!
Thanks!!

(11,464 posts)Conversation is never a mistake. It is always interesting to see what others think, regardless of their party affiliation
though of course I would never agree with any Ron/Rand/Jorg Haider fan (unless they were hiding that inconvient truth ).
as my opinion is mine, and I have left my ego at the door, if 1000 people didn't like it, it doesn't matter.
Because it's my opinion, and I am sticking to it.
(and I always marvel when someone advocating free speech wants to shout me down, it's like triple irony.

(3,247 posts)As soon as I saw that exit polling pushed Webb over the top-- which was the breaking point for Dems regaining the Senate-- I posted a celebratory OP. Instead of anyone cheering with me, three or four people immediately attacked me for premature ejaculation. (In the sense that the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew "ejaculated" remarks of an enthusiastic nature.) A few minutes later a member of the in crowd posted the same damn news and got high fives from everyone!

(16,646 posts)I've had very few removed/deleted/hidden/locked, whatever we called them in the DU2 days. But I clearly remember one I had that practically EVERYONE who responded missed the point. (Which probably says as much about my writing skills as anything). I opened it with explaining to whom I was speaking, basically people who were dissatisfied with Obama's first term. I went on to list the most popular items of disagreement. I suggested that if you didn't like many of these actions/accomplishments, you probably weren't going to like his second term either, and in fact since he wouldn't need your vote anymore, it might get worse. Maybe the people I was addressing just agreed without comment, but everyone that DID comment were people who WERE satisfied with his first term and decided to argue whether the laundry list was accurate.
Which is actually an interesting observation and also a lesson as well. People come here because the place is set up to cater to those who enter believing that certain positions/values/ideas are a "given". The truth is though that I don't think anyone could actually create a list of what those things are. So much of the disagreement here is founded in the underlying concept of "I didn't think I'd have to argue that here". When writing, it seems to be very necessary to write to those who will disagree with you, not those who will concur. The problem is, the website was roughly created for the opposite reason.

(45,851 posts)Short paragraphs of one or maybe two sentences and only a thought or two each separated by white space helps.
How your thoughts looks on the page or screen is almost more important than what you say and how you say it is even more important.
Brevity is not only the soul of wit, it's the soul of communication also.

(16,646 posts)There's an old expression about writing a long letter because one didn't have time to pen a short one. It's easy to write down what I'm thinking. It's hard to word it so that the reader won't think I meant something else.

(16,847 posts)I wrote a post once that tried to explain my opposition to extreme abortion protesters by comparing it with myself (hypothetically) organizing an extreme protest against a business. Nobody seemed to get my point, and people accused me of being some sort of radical because of the protest they believed I was planning to carry out. By the time I was finally able to explain to one person what my purpose was, everyone had already abandoned the thread. I learned a lesson that day, which was to avoid subtleties when posting on DU.
People who come here wishing to learn something on DU usually do. I don't know why the others come here; seems to me that it would be a total waste of time for them.

(1,388 posts)started to engage here, I had my first couple posts deleted. Mostly I think I was mobbed by those who seem to think it their duty to put newbies through an initiation. I still find some hard nosed people who would rather be just critical instead of just disagreeing and then being instructional. I don't ever put anyone on ignore, but when people now, are ignorant to me, I get a little more heated. I usually just say, "you really are not a nice person are you?" I have tried to be a little more understanding as I know people's lives can be unsettled and that leads to incivility.
I have to say I have learned much and been taught much. And have had to backtrack and change my mind. I am like you and go over all I have written before hitting "post my reply". I try not to use contractions, abbreviations or acronyms for different things, as that seems to cause a lot of problems and misunderstandings.
I have also tried to not swear much anymore, but there is nothing like a well placed "fuck" to make a point. Asshat is a favorite too..

(55,147 posts)I thought what I posted would sink like a rock like most of them do but this one in particular took on a mind of it's own! I could not steer the topic back to what I thought it should have been so after 350 some odd posts I ended up deleting the OP. Never again will I make a post resembling that OP. The topic was about a out Lesbian and a beauty pageant.
