Two men and two women were shot dead inside a building along Cherokee Street about 1:40 p.m. today, a police source said.
Shots were fired inside the Cherokee Place Business Incubator at 2715 Cherokee Street, police say.
The building was evacuated and police were interviewing at least three people across the street, police say. At least one man and two women were taken into custody.
At least a dozen police cars and two ambulances had responded to the block. Police had the block closed off between Ohio and Iowa avenues.
The building at 2715 Cherokee Street is owned by Will Liebermann, known for renovating buildings on the street for years and leasing them as studio "live-work spaces." A Post-Dispatch article from 2009 said the 4,000-square-foot building houses numerous independent businesses.

Apparently another story today calls St. Louis the city with the highest rate of Sin as well and we had numerous shootings here the other night all across the city.

(488 posts)I've been a lurker for years here, but created an account to reply in this thread, since I've got some first-hand knowledge of the area. At this point, the area is blocked off by police, so I haven't been able to talk to anyone to know who the victims were, or the identity of the shooter. I suspect I know them all.
Until a few months ago, I had an office in the building where this shooting took place. The office where the shooting happened, was a business owned by Somalian immigrants. The office was small, and everyone in there I classified as a good neighbor. I had only casual conversations with everyone, and the subject of religion never came up. The one woman I conversed with in the office, certainly wasn't dressed as a conservative Muslim, if she indeed was.
If this story has national legs, I am curious to see how it is covered and/or politicized, since this will be the first time I'm somewhat familiar with the people involved. From what I know know, this is not an easy story to pigeonhole into familiar narratives. No one there ever came across as crazy, a religious extremist, gun-toting survivalist, etc.
From my point of view, the whole thing is very sad. I worked alongside the people from that office for two years, and thought I was lucky to have them as neighbors.
