Nevada's (R) Governor vetoes universal background checks, first in nation to do so since Sandy Hook

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — With Gov. Brian Sandoval's veto of SB221 Thursday, private citizens in Nevada can continue selling firearms to each other without doing background checks.

The Republican governor had said for weeks he would veto the bill, so the official act surprised few.

(snip)

"It's disappointing. This is common sense legislation that protected rights of gun owners in our state while making great strides to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the dangerously mentally ill," said Sen. Justin Jones, D-Las Vegas, the bill's sponsor who found out about the veto from reading tweets. "The governor turned a blind eye to victims of tragedies like Sandy Hook and IHOP."

A gunman killed 26 people, including 20 children, at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut. Four people were killed and several were injured in a shooting at a Carson City IHOP in 2011.

considering universal checks would have done nothing for Lanza's victims. but of course we all know that, just choose to ignore the truth to sooth our souls of the pain of loss.

so, we embark on an authoritarian agenda, then shamelessly pimp victims and children out to hopefully wrest an emotional reaction from the emotionally stunted among us so we can wield fear to our own ends.

thank god nobody important or in a position of actual power is falling for it.

Because a universal background check is a back door way for creating a registry.

shame on him for vetoing this piece of legislation, but for reasons stated to you earlier, NV. would have UBC now.
I worked to get this passed, I called, campaigned for it and in the end it was all for naught.

Now, I'll have to do it all over again in 2015, meanwhile, I'll work to get him out of office and hopefully get someone elected that's more amendable to UBC.

I talked to everyone I could in my town and urged them to call the Gov's office and vote in favor of it.
Unfortunately, I live in a very red town.

Is if firearms are registered. Otherwise the system would never know when a firearm changes hands.
