I have been a avid reader of DU for many years now, and I have tried posting before under an old screen name a few times, but it was never well-received. So, I am now going to participate under the name of a movement I am a part of. I hope this effort goes a bit better. Thanks again!

It's very sad, but I am beginning to think so. I would not have said that in the 1950s yet. But now . . . . .

position with power. They have often wormed their way into office for $$$$$, power and fame and to do the bidding of their corrupt supporters and/or warped ideologues. This is possibly the most propagandized nation ever. And what is amazing, so many support politicians that will do the most harm to them. It seems the Stockholm syndrome works quite well for many when they go to vote.

That, is pure bullshit. The militarized force was coordinated and the smear campaign with disinformation was well coordinated, to influence the perpetual DUH crowd, the lambs and lemmings, and the 'deer in the headlight' crowd.

The spores of decay lie within the system itself. A system which touts justice but honors avarice and corruption cannot be redeemed. A paradigm shift is required at this point. The spiral is completing this cycle and the only place left is complete police state.

You don't put new wine into old skins......

15. Bernie supports basing the F-35 in South Burlington, VT

which will render 3000 (low income) homes incompatible with residential use. The F-35 is four times as loud as the F-16's which currently lower our standard of living in Chittenden County, Vermont. It will damage your hearing if you happen to be outside when it flies overhead.

The scoring data in the base selection process was "fudged" to favor South Burlington, VT to Satisfy Pat Leahy, per the Boston Globe's Brian Bender. A lawsuit has been filed to compel release of the scoring sheets. A phone call from Sen Leahy or Sanders would have them released in a day.

I am a former long time Bernie supporter and am broken-hearted by this. If Bernie was serious about helping people he would object, with his full voice, to the F-35 program, which is now projected to cost 1.5 trillion (and rising) over the next fifty years.

Bernie is helping turn the cute little city of Winooski, Vermont into a "sacrifice zone".

Bernie is full of shit.

... so, I did a quick google and found this from his website:

F-35s "A little irony here" is how Stewart Ledbetter described Republican John MacGovern opposing and Sen. Sanders supporting F-35s at the Vermont Air National Guard. The host of "Vermont This Week" on Vermont Public Television remarked on "the irony of a conservative, Dartmouth, blue blood, pro-Pentagon Senate candidate opposing the F-35 when everybody else - Bernie Sanders, the guy who hates defense spending ... unless it relates to the Vermont National Guard - the irony was a little ..." "Hilarious," interjected Paul Heintz of Seven Days. Mark Johnson of WDEV said Sanders' stand on the F-35s is consistent with is opposition years ago to efforts by demonstrators to shut down a GE plant in Burlington. "He was very strong against that peace community and very much stood with the union workers."
(emphasis added)

Now, I am a little bothered by this, but pales in comparison to what the previous poster was alleging. And with some context, it doesn't appear to be of the magnitude or the maliciousness with which the previous poster implied.

I'm real, and all I have said is that Bernie supports this horrifically unjust plan, betraying his legacy of supporting affordable housing and economic justice issues.

I understand that people who don't have to deal with this issue might not want to consider the implications, although, the F-35 is such an expensive plane (1.5 trillion dollars over the life of the program) and so unnecessary, and so underperforming, everyone should be against it.

Jun 2013

A few years back a fellow DUer ran a DU poll asking who your favorite Congressperson was.

The person who won that poll was Senator Bernie Sanders. Senator Sanders is an Independent, not a Democrat.

Remarkably here in the Democratic Underground, this Independent Senator won that poll in a two to one landslide over the rest of the field!

I suspect the good Senator's popularity has diminished around here not in the slightest!

Democratic Socialist is the same thing as a bourgeois socialist. Not saying that's bad, especially in this country, where anything left of Atilla the Hun is looked at with scorn, but let's keep things in perspective.

Maybe then we'll find out who the real crooked Pols are instead of confusing stealing with legalized bribery.
