Muslim group plans to open gay and female friendly mosque

A group of Muslims says it wants to open up mosques to everyone, regardless of their gender or sexual orientation.

The Inclusive Mosque Initiative wants to create new mosques that it would allow men and women to pray side-by-side and openly welcome the gay community.

It's a move that could anger many Muslims, but Tamsila Tauqir insists that they will not be trying to change existing mosques.

She told BBC 5 live's Breakfast, "We want to create a space for Muslims who don't feel welcome, aren't comfortable or who feel disenfranchised."

1. Clearly the best way to capture a fort is from the inside.

The world needs an Islamic reformation badly. The world Islam to be infused with a progressive world view.

The mufti of Syria, a die-hard "pro-Assad" cleric, is among the most progressive. He dared to say he favors separation of church and state, and even:

"If the Prophet Muhammad had asked me to deem Christians or Jews heretics, I would have deemed Muhammad himself a heretic," and, "f Muhammad had ordered me to kill people, I would have told him, 'You are not a Prophet.'"

So there are some good voices out there. But there are many bad ones too, calling outright for the murder of non-Muslims and certainly death for homosexuals like me! The US even supports them with weapons!

I'm very pleased about the efforts of progressive Muslim brothers ans sisters.
