If you add up all the people who would have no access to health care if the GOP got its way it would be over 125,000,000.
We now have over 46,000,000 people with no health care insurance or almost no access to even the most basic care.
If you end Medicaide, voucher Medicare, and take way all the protections against dropped coverage and preexisting conditions, and and end employer provided health insurance you would likely add more than 60,000,000 people with out health care access to what we have now.
The GOP should be labeled Murder, Inc.

(61,698 posts)is limited to what the organization, if religious, will do. There are many places in smaller towns where only catholic organizations run the hospitals and clinics and will not participate in contraception.

(10,602 posts)Even in Denver the Catholics have bought up a lot of hospital bed. I believe that there is a move to make all of our hospitals religiously affiliated. That way you can end birth control across the country. And actually you are right there are many rural areas where there is NO other kind of hospital.
I think hospitals should be nationalized and should provide ALL services. There is nothing wrong with federal money for contraceptive services even abortion. We spend federal money to kill innocent people in other countries. What is really the difference?

(10,602 posts)What I am saying is that we object to having any federal money that supports abortion. Yet we seem to favor that same federal money when it comes to starting wars in Iraq which ended up killing a lot of innocent people.
The argument about abortion services is primarily a religious one. Even if I take on the religious belief around this issue I have NO right to tell a nonbeliever that they must accept my belief. What I have a problem with is religious communities wanting keep women from getting access to unwanted pregnancy protection. They are telling women that the only option you should have is celibacy. Yet they support viagra coverage.
They are also saying that reproductive services and conditions are separate from womens' health issues. That their reproductive system is completely separate from their health problems. That idea is absurd.
The real issue is not abortion services per se. The real issue is the GOP and the churches want to ban, eliminate even criminalize women who practice family planning. They want the government to enforce their dictums. They want to create and economy where business can rape anyone they want and steal peoples' wages with impunity (small government). Yet they want the "chastity police" to come into your private life and tell you who to love, when to have sex, etc etc. Behind this crap they want to pass laws against fornication, cohabitation, divorce, enforced covenant marriages, make gays criminal by who they are, etc. (big government)
They are a bunch of pathological liars who just want the power to dictate. Yet they cry freedom. Well screw them. They are the enemy and are cultural and economic terrorists at war with the country, the poor, women and anyone else who does not agree with them.

Thankfully occupy has sparked a fire that is growing into an inferno which will bring these monsters to justice.
