Taylor Swift is totally not a feminist, you guys. Or so she said earlier this year in an interview with The Daily Beast. But thats not stopping one of her devoted fans from portraying the pop star as a young woman dedicated to fighting the patriarchy.
Two days ago, the Twitter feed, FeministTaylorSwift, was born. The brainchild of Brown University student Clara Beyer, @feministtswift takes the singers most saccharine song lyrics and reworks them into thoughtful statements about the intricacies of gender politics.
And its genius: In 48 hours, the feed has gained almost 9,000 followers. Beyer recently explained to Buzzfeed that her motivation for creating the feminist alter ego of her favorite pop icon was as much for her own peace of mind as it was for entertainment.
