I have a hard time condoning a protest at a private residence, but as the details emerge, I can't really blame the protesters. They had repeatedly asked to meet with him at his office in Topeka and he refused. They invited him to attend a forum on immigration and he refused. His office staff told them he handled immigration matters at his private law office and they should meet with him there to discuss their concerns. And they told them his private law office is in his house. So they went to his house.
Kobach had multiple opportunities to prevent these protesters from coming to his house. He could have been an adult instead of a racist ass and he wouldn't have had to worry about his family feeling threatened.
Police are investigating a protest at Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach's home as he said Monday he is prepared to use lethal force if necessary.

Kobach is declining interview requests with Kansas City and Topeka media outlets, but did speak with Fox News.
"I was just appalled," he said. "They have a right to protect at my office or at my public places, that's fine. But they don't have the right to enter someone's private property and engage in this kind of intimidation. I have four little girls and they would have been terrified to see 200 protesters shouting at their daddy on megaphones on the front lawn."
A town hall meeting was held Saturday to discuss comprehensive immigration reform. Hundreds had planned to attend.
Four buses filled with protestors converged Saturday on Kobach's home. He and his family were out of town at time, according to Kobach.
Video shot by one of the protestors showed a group standing at Kobach's front door. Chants and songs were made. Some protestors left behind shoes that they said represented the fathers turned by their families after they were deported.
The Sunflower Community Action group said they went to Kobach's home to make a statement and because he had refused to meet with group leaders at his office in Topeka. They said the Secretary of State's office had said to meet with Kobach at his private office, which is inside his home, they said.
A spokeswoman said the protest had made an impact and the group has no regrets.
Kobach, an attorney, has championed tough immigration laws, including an Arizona law. He told Fox News that he believed many of those outside his home are in Kansas illegally.

He said it took police 15 minutes to respond to his home, which he believes is unacceptable when a "mob" was involved.
"I shudder to think what would have happened if one of members of the mob had tried to break into the house," he said.
He said Saturday's incident is an example of why Americans should bear arms.

(1,799 posts)Is he saying they're not in the country legally?
Armed and paranoid?
Perhaps his attitude and xenophobia are an example of why some Americans should NOT bear arms.

(19,768 posts)I'm new to the story, but clearly, the guy is right, they don't have any right to be on his personal property, and they should either leave or be arrested. That must be clear from any perspective.

(31,849 posts)in their law office (that happens to be at one's private residence) ... should they be insulated from the public's voice?

(19,768 posts)Nothing makes going to his home without invite and then refusing to leave ok. It's not ok. If they don't leave they should be arrested.

(96,793 posts)I honestly don't see what these people did as illegal. In poor taste perhaps but it isn't illegal to knock on someone's door.

Maybe his big smack down by Scalia this morning just tossed him over the edge?
He is such a whiner. Such a little baby and so snotty about everything too.
Sounds to me like they had nowhere else to go be heard.
These days you take every opportunity there is because all our former ways to get them to pay attention have been shut down.

(15,682 posts)about his little girls when he told his office to refer them to his law office at his home. Sounds like he was looking out for number one. And that right there is one of the differences between a good guy/father and a bad guy/father. A good and decent man (or woman) instinctively keep this kind of thing away from his (her) family. He invited it. Who does that? Who uses his family as a shield?

(15,682 posts)It took me an entire paragraph (up thread) to say the same. These days on DU I find myself needing to explain things in detail. But you, my dear, have mastered the one-liner with this one.
