Leaked documents reveal Russian president was spied on during visit, as questions are raised over use of US base in Britain

This time, we're told, the "leaked" docs were provided by the Guardian's latest super-model whistleblower, a blond choir boy much like the last one, this time with glasses:
The document, leaked by the NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden and seen by the Guardian, shows the agency believed it might have discovered "a change in the way Russian leadership signals have been normally transmitted".

(15,512 posts)1. Climategate was a row over e-mails hacked from the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia (UEA) and released in Nov. 2009, by Wikileaks, fronted by Julian Assange, the result being to sandbag Obama at the international Climate conference in Copenhagen that began on Dec. 7, 2009. 3. Russia-gate is a row over NSA spying on then-Russian president Medvedev at the G-20 in London in May 2009, based on docs supposedly leaked by Snowden that appeared in yesterday's Guardian; Putin and Obama met at the G-8 in Belfast today, more here:

Coincidence, well . . . I think it was two bottle blonds in a row that did it for me.

(101,341 posts)they just hosted a copy once they'd been released by someone still unknown (they were sent to many climate-related sites). Though your link doesn't mention Assange or Wikileaks at all. Which you'd know if you'd read it.

And, again, if you'd read the link you gave, you'd have seen that Wikileaks is not mentioned at all. They're bit players in that, because all they did was take the already-leaked emails, and put them on their own site.
What's strange is that you see the theft of the CRU emails as an attack on Obama. Obama has never been that interested in global warming; look at, for instance, his behaviour on the Keystone XL pipeline. He still hasn't come out against it. Those emails were leaked to screw up action against man-made global warming, certainly; but that's not Obama's area.

(15,512 posts)but the fact is that things have gone badly for Obama at all three of these meetings.

(8,155 posts)Wishful thinking. You want these events to be connected. You want there to be some greater meaning alleviating responsibility from the Obama administration.

(15,512 posts)Three times and we see the same pattern: docs detrimental to the US negotiating position are "leaked" to the Guardian by photogenic "whistleblowers" and published just in time to sandbag Obama at an international conference. Hmm...

(8,155 posts)Is it merely coincidence that you now have developed a theory of your own?
Please don't assume I'm that daft.

(15,512 posts)Obama's carbon tax scheme was voted down and that's about the last we've heard of a concerted international effort to control carbon emissions. Total catastrophe IMHO.

(15,512 posts)Whether there's a more than coincidental connection I suppose is debatable, but in my view, it's hard to deny. Don't forget that James Bond is practically a national hero in the UK and they're rather proud of their espionage.

(15,512 posts)but apparently he's a former male model, read actor, so I suspect his entire backstory including you-know-who is a lot of baloney. I seriously doubt if he knows much more than what he's been coached to say, which is basically Manning was coached to say, and exactly what fake-left luminaries like Hedges say every chance they get:
I pointed out where the NSA has hacked civilian infrastructure such as universities, hospitals and private businesses because it is dangerous, he wrote in the online Q&A, adding that part of what motivated him to leak the details was his disillusionment with Obamas failure to live up to some of his 2008 campaign promises.
Obamas campaign promises and election gave me faith that he would lead us toward fixing the problems he outlined in his quest for votes. Many Americans felt similarly, he said. Unfortunately, shortly after assuming power, he closed the door on investigating systemic violations of law, deepened and expanded several abusive programs, and refused to spend the political capital to end the kind of human rights violations like we see in Guantanamo, where men still sit without charge.

Let's see, Paul supporter Snowden was disillusioned by Obama's "human rights violations" at Guantanamo so he slipped classified US intel to the Guardian to splash around the world at politically embarrassing moments like the G8?
Heck yeah, I believe that, you betcha!

(15,512 posts)The Guardian, Monday 17 June 2013
In Moscow Russian officials said the Guardian revelation that US spies had intercepted top-secret communications of Dmitry Medvedev at a G20 summit in London in April 2009 would further harm the struggling US-Russia relationship and cast a shadow over the G8 summit in Northern Ireland on Monday and Tuesday.
Details of the spying, set out in a briefing prepared by the National Security Agency (NSA), were leaked by the whistleblower Edward Snowden and revealed by the Guardian late on Sunday. Documents show that US spies based in Britain spied on Medvedev, then the Russian president and now prime minister.
Medvedev's spokeswoman, Natalya Timakova, declined to comment. But speaking to state-run media, senior Russian officials said the revelations had deepened mistrust between the US and Russia, whose relations have already sunk to a post-cold-war low following a brief and largely unsuccessful "reset" during Medvedev's four-year reign in the Kremlin.
Igor Morozov, a senator in Russia's Federation Council, the upper house of parliament, suggested that the Obama administration's attempts to improve relations were clearly insincere: "2009 was the year the Russian-American 'reset' was announced. At the same time US special services were listening to Dmitry Medvedev's phonecalls."

Vladimir Putin denies stealing Robert Kraft's Super Bowl ring
By John Breech | CBSSports.com

Get ready for another Cold War -- or at least a war of words between Patriots owner Robert Kraft and Russian president Vladimir Putin.
Earlier this week, the Patriots owner insinuated that Putin stole Kraft's $25,000 Super Bowl XXXIX ring while Kraft was visiting St. Petersburg, Russia, in 2005.
"I took out the ring and showed it to [Putin], and he put it on and he goes, 'I can kill someone with this ring,'" Kraft said on Thursday, describing what happened in 2005. "I put my hand out and he put it in his pocket, and three KGB guys got around him and walked out."
Now Putin is denying such an event ever occurred. According to the Russian president, the Super Bowl ring was a gift.
(snip)
Peskov said the ring is in the Kremlin's library along with all other "official" state gifts.
Was the ring a gift? Kraft released a statement in 2005 that said the ring was a gift. However, Kraft said he only released the statement because the White House asked him to in an effort to avoid an international incident.
