I know it's personal so I'll keep it vague and understand those that don't want to participate.
Have you, a family member or friend been the victim of rape or incest? Was it reported?
I won't say men can't answer but I'm more interested in what the women have to say at this point.
For myself, I have not been a victim but there were victims of incest in my family and a good friend was raped by a male friend in high school. Nothing was reported to the police.

(1,799 posts)It so far all who participated either have been sexually assaulted or know someone close to them that was a victim. And so far a very small percentage are reported.

Self-blame or guilt.
Shame, embarrassment, or desire to keep the assault a private matter.
Humiliation or fear of the perpetrator or other individual's perceptions.
Fear of not being believed or of being accused of playing a role in the crime.
Lack of trust in the criminal justice system.
