WASHINGTON Rep. Marsha Blackburn found herself at the center of an emotionally charged debate over abortion Tuesday, as she led Republican efforts to pass a bill prohibiting the procedure more than 20 weeks into a pregnancy.
Blackburn, of Brentwood, was appointed to lead the floor debate for the GOP after the Republican-controlled House Judiciary Committee passed the bill last week. There are no Republican women on the committee.
She called the legislation, which passed 228-196, an appropriate response to Kermit Gosnells house of horrors.
President Barack Obama has threatened to veto the bill.

(1,799 posts)It's disgusting that they try to claim it does. The truth is we would see that and worse if they criminalize abortion.

(30,745 posts)Legal abortion has been so restricted by the crazies that clinics are hard to find for many women. The poor and desperate go to people like Gosnell because they lack information, transportation and other types of support.
I spit in this woman's general direction.

(13,257 posts)Too busy to do actual work, too stupid to realize they create more Kermit Gosnell's every time they restrict abortion access.

(12,321 posts)This gem: "the incidences of rape resulting in pregnancy is very low."
As if Trent Franks would even know or understand.
Yeah, like Trent Franks ever has to live with the horror and trauma of being raped, and then discovering he's pregnant by the rapist.
Right.
