H.R. 1797
below is from Organizing for Action
This just actually happened:
The House of Representatives passed one of the most unbelievable, unconstitutional attacks on women's health in a long time.
It's a bill written by Republican Arizona Congressman Trent Franks, which would ban abortions after 20 weeks, except in extremely limited circumstances -- a direct legislative challenge to Roe v. Wade.
And 228 members of Congress just voted for it.
Maybe they weren't paying attention to the reaction of Americans across the country last year who rejected candidates who wanted to restrict a woman's access to safe, affordable health care.
Here is the roll call....

(12,321 posts)There are an infinite number of posts on DU right now about Edward Snowden, NSA. etc. It's an important issue, but so is the endless attack on women's rights and civil liberties...isn't it strange that no one is even paying attention?
Edited to add: Thanks for the voting info. I see that one of the PA Repubs actually voted Nay.

(6,942 posts)....spying goes on on both sides so I could care less about Snowden. Our schools are financially crumbling and graduation rates are in the 60% range and we are chasing a fable idiot like Snowden.

(12,321 posts)Everyone is obsessing about ONE issue, while this blatant maneuver to take away women's civil rights is ignored.
It's not right.

(12,321 posts)228 members of Congress voted "yea" on a bill authored by a man who said, "The incidences of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low." How THE HELL would HE KNOW?
It's unbelievable.

(92,217 posts)people do not pay attention unless they see it on TV, and the Democrats MUST keep reminding the populous just how dangerous the republican party is

(12,321 posts)So many posts about privacy, and civil liberties, and government over-reach...no one is paying attention that those are the very things Congress voted to take away from women yesterday.
