Speaking of cloak and dagger, whatever became of The Office of Strategic Influence.........

For those who don't remember or didn't know their once was (is) an Office of Strategic Influence who's (non-)existence was primarily to confuse the enemy.

The Office of Strategic Influence, or OSI, was a department created by the United States Department of Defense on October 30, 2001, to support the War on Terrorism through psychological operations in targeted countries, which did not include the United States because the Pentagon is barred from PSYOPs in the U.S. Although the closure of the office was announced by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld soon after its existence became publicly known, later comments by Secretary Rumsfeld imply that the actual operations of the OSI have continued unabated.

Although I prefer this explanation....

Some argue that due to its nature and stated purpose, the (non-)existence of such an agency would be hard to determine. OSI is said to have been reorganized, with all its original functions reassigned to the Office of Global Communications, [Information Awareness Office] (IAO), and the newly reactivated Counter-Disinformation/Misinformation Team .

As we continue to our discussions of the NSA, it might do well to remember that at one time there once was (is) an Office of Strategic Influence who (non-)existed.
