Doctors At Ohio State Witness Leukemia Breakthrough

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Dennis Hickey admits he should be dead.

“I'm here, and I shouldn't be,” he said.

Thanks to some grey pills, Hickey has defied the odds associated with stage 4 terminal leukemia. He suffers from a form of leukemia called CLL.

“I should have passed away 10 years ago,” he said.

Hickey was part of a clinical trial at Ohio State’s Comprehensive Cancer Center–Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute using the drug Ibrutinib.

According to Doctor John Byrd of The James, of the 900 patients in the trial, every single person has gone into remission.

They will ONLY look at "treatments" for disease. Government research and charity are the only hope Dustlawyer Jun 2013 #7

That is incredible. E v e r y single person went into remission!

I have often felt if instead we put the money into medical research that we put into war we could have conquered many diseases including cancer long ago.

I do understand that. However, I do believe if this country put the same kind of money and effort into medical research instead of placing the resources into war, we likely would have found cures for all, or nearly all cancers. imo

The prediction was that cancer, like HIV, would become a manageable condition. Granted, this is only one type of cancer, but it's a HUGH breakthrough to get every single one of 900 participants into remission. Awesome news, indeed.

for cures. The treatment for my disease is $15,000 per. You start with a treatment (an IV) a day for 4 days, then only 1 every 2 months for life! Insurance of course doesn't cover it. I cannot afford it, but i am thinking of moving to France, lol! Capitolism at its finest.
Despite the huge research costs (when they do it properly), Big Pharma's profits are always soaring!

and this is beyond awesome news! I was dx'ed in May of 2007 and have been fortunate not to have had any treatment yet, although I know that time is coming ever closer. I've already decided against traditional chemo - I have so many shitty autoimmune disorders that I figured when it was time it was time. The first oncologist I saw wanted to start chemo ONE week after being diagnosed. That's when I went to a CLL specialist at UCSD, thank goodness!

My mom passed away from leukemia (we don't know what subtype, such as CLL, a month after she turned 50). It was in 1980 and there wasn't much hope back then. I still miss her every day.

Thanks SO much, this is beyond exciting! I can't wait to tell my husband and family. PLEASE FDA - fast track this for sure! The Straight Story, I can't thank you enough through the tears.

Sure hope this is available soon. Really want to see the grandkids grow up! We've lost enough to cancer in both our families; I know exactly what you mean. Take care!
