Michael Hastings started young

this is from an interview he gave in 2010 to his old high school newspaper:

<snip>

In 1997, he moved to Vermont as a junior in high school. He went to Rice Memorial High School in South Burlington, where he was banned from the school newspaper, “because” he said, “I compared the principal to, I think I said he looked like Jabba the Hut – which was true – but that did not endear me to them.” At the end of his junior year, he ran for class president, and won, on an anti-administrative platform, “which didn’t sit well with Jabba the Hut,” he laughingly recalled, “But they couldn’t stop it, they can’t stop democracy,” he added.

Everything was going well until one day; about six months after Austin Powers first came out, he was advertising over the intercom “for Roses, or some sort of Valentine’s Day thing.” He said of the product, “This sounds pretty shagadelic.” He explained that this was before Austin Powers had become main stream, and so the word was not part of the vernacular yet, “This sent shock waves through the school… the school launched an investigation on the meaning of shagadelic. This is Rice, a Catholic school” He was called into the vice principal’s office.

“There’s a pattern here establishing throughout my life,” he said, smiling. “I was impeached. It was more like a coup than an impeachment, really, because there was no actual trial.”

He was suspended and banned from student council.

8. A *non-conformer*!? He must be reported immediately!

Couldn't tell if the OP meant to laud, or condemn, such "non-conformity," given what DU's become lately...

your post doesn't make any sense at all. Are you suggesting that I adore this administration? That's too funny for words.

I get stupidly attacked just about daily for being anti-Obama. over and over and over again. I've been referred to as "Madame Obama Hater".

and then once in a while I get the stupid shit such as your post.

I posted this because I thought it showed his passion for speaking his mind at an early age. I didn't dig through anything, dear. I'm a Vermonter. This is from a VT political site that I peruse regularly. And Michael was a Vermonter with a passion for the state. He wrote about his love for Vermont a lot.

Pathetic, hon.

Couldn't tell -- in the present climate of DU -- if the "started early" was meant to condemn him, given all the character attacks on the leaker.

You may have meant it in laudatory fashion -- i.e., he's been consistent throughout his life.

In which case, having misconstrued in the intent of the OP, sorry.

The DU minefield, and all that.

5. Holy shizz! Do you think maybe his old high school principle had him offed?

I mean, long ago when I was in high school, there were kids who smuggled drugs from Mexico and kids who pulled off armed robberies

But nothing like this "Jabba the Hut" and "shagadelic" stuff ever happened

Jeez! What's gotten into kids nowadays

People just don't easily forgive and forget stuff like "Jabba the Hut" and "shagadelic"

6. no, but I think your compulsion to say something nasty in every thread about Hastings

is bizarre. not nearly as bizarre as your, uh, interest in Assange, however. that's really... well, odd.

Cali has organically asked the right questions in a fair manner to DU.
