I like Ike

"Here in America we are descended in blood and in spirit from revolutionists and rebels - men and women who dare to dissent from accepted doctrine. As their heirs, may we never confuse honest dissent with disloyal subversion."

- President Dwight Eisenhower

be thrown out of the Democratic party, today.

Hell, even most DUers would wring their hands and say that Ike was too extreme... To the left.

He warned us. JFK tried to defuse it. And, here we are, 50 years later with Authoritarian after Authoritarian in power.

Adlai Stevenson for President (1956), and my parents were crying, so I was too. I was in 6th grade.

Both were far more admirable than almost anyone of either party nowadays.

Saw national needs and addressed them, from highways ( yes, from a defense perspective) and the beginning of a righteous national movement on desegregation, foreshadowing future events as to voting rights etc.

Military background that led him to truly appreciate the excesses that may befall his beloved republic.

If he were among us today, I would "Like Ike."

Thank you! I made a positive comment about Ike on another post a couple of weeks ago and got my ass handed to me. His list of "flaws" are a joke compared to some presidents I could mention, and on the plus side he paid down the war debt and built the national highway system. The man was intelegent, subtle, and had the nations best interest at heart.

13. Over 30 years ago I asked my grandmother what she thought of Reagan.

She said that she thought he was just as bad as Hoover, he didn't know what the hell he was doing.
So, I asked her if she liked Eisenhower, and she said not really. She told me that she thought that the last good Republican president the Republicans had was Teddy Roosevelt.

Nixon ran way too many black ops, much like Poppy Bush did for Reagan.

15. Agreed. I didn't know Prescott Bush was Nixon's mentor in the Senate until I came to the DU.

I had read about Prescott Bush over at the Counterpunch site, which is a really good site with a lot of material, and a lot of thought-provoking articles written by some very knowledgeable authors.

But, we were not allowed to link to Counterpunch at the old DU2 because there was a secret, unpublished list of sites that the admins created that prevented most of the Counterpunch articles from being linked to at the old forum to inform DU members of what they had written about on their site.

I did not know that Prescott Bush was a Nazi sympathizer until I went to the Counterpunch site a decade ago.

16. Your mother was a good judge of character.

If this book by former Nixon aide Roger Stone is what he says it is...your mother will be a stellar judge of character.

It is a book where he claims to have proof of Nixon's and LBJ's ties to Jack Ruby. If true that will be quite a bombshell.
