Romney: I Am A Son Of Detroit

Romney: I Am A Son Of Detroit

In an op-ed in today's Detroit News, Mitt Romney doubled down on his opposition to President Obama's auto company bailouts.

"I am a son of Detroit," Romney's piece begins. "Cars got in my bones early. And not just any cars, American cars."

Romney is suddenly facing a competitive race in Michigan with a resurgent Rick Santorum, but is still dogged by his vociferous dismissal of Obama's attempts to save the auto companies in 2009.

From the Detroit News:

Three years ago, in the midst of an economic crisis, a newly elected President Barack Obama stepped in with a bailout for the auto industry. The indisputable good news is that Chrysler and General Motors are still in business. The equally indisputable bad news is that all the defects in President Obama's management of the American economy are evident in what he did.

Instead of doing the right thing and standing up to union bosses,Obama rewarded them.

You just didn't understand what you were referencing; it's a racist slur.

Anyhow, I saw somebody use the "N" word one time in a movie--that doesn't mean I can ignorantly repeat it as a "joke".

It's a reference to the previous guy's lyric, and, yeah, duh, it's a slur in the film...that's the point of the film fer chrissakes. Whether it's also a reference to Coleman Young is another story altogether

It's clear you're just going to play the aggrieved and pouty white guy here, so I'll leave you to it, and your breathing exercises.

This isn't 1980 anymore LOL-

Coleman Young was telling the criminals to hit 8 mile- (walking and keep walking)
In the movie 8 Mile they were clearly talking about the disparity between one side of 8 mile and the other and the fact that all the black folks lived on the "other side".

The racism you are hinting to around Coleman Young and the "alleged" quote you are talking about is wrong. Young was talking about all criminals, pushers and drug dealers. (He wasn't telling all white people to leave which is the urban legend started)

If it's that easy, I'll make a new one.

I heard Romney liked goat fucking but only if it's outside.

There, now Romney is an alleged goat fucker

"In the movie 8 Mile they were clearly talking about the disparity between one side of 8 mile and the other and the fact that all the black folks lived on the "other side". "

That's what Coleman Young was ALLEGEDLY talking about, too.

"The racism you are hinting to around Coleman Young and the "alleged" quote you are talking about is wrong. Young was talking about all criminals, pushers and drug dealers. (He wasn't telling all white people to leave which is the urban legend started) "

I didn't say Coleman Young's quote was racist (in fact, I used the word "alleged" quote to signify the high probability that Young never said what was being implied, but quickly backed off the nuance, realizing that the speaker didn't even understand the broad outline of the issue.)

I said that the use of the (likely misattributed) "quotation" was stirring up racial hatred in a place in which it didn't belong. That's a significant distinction.

Notice that the poster in question, rather than stooping to learn any of the context around the issue, instead reveled in his ignorance.
