I think Putin's representatives have likely offered him asylum there and he's probably considering his options in that regard.

I'd say Ecuador is still a better bet if only because the food there is better and the mean old gummint is more likely to leave him there out of the hands of either the Chinese or the Russians.

Actually, Ecuador is on the short list of possible places for me to check out to retire to. The mountainous cimate is quite temperate unless you gravitate to the ocean view, then it's tropical. It's also a fine place for fiber hobbyists and artists.

Ecuador is a bit backwaters to offer any real security. I'd stay in Russia, if I were in Snowden's shoes.
