'Rage Against the Machine' Guitarist Tom Morello -- I'll Pay for Edward Snowden's Escape Flight

Tom Morello's so pissed about the worldwide search for Edward Snowden that he's willing to foot the bill to help the man behind the NSA leaks escape the U.S. government.

We brought up the Snowden scandal to Rage Against the Machine's guitarist last night ... and he absolutely unloaded on the Obama administration, and recommended Snowden -- who's been charged with espionage and theft of government property -- never return to the U.S.

Morello explained, "I think he should live a happy life in Ecuador. That's what I think. I think he's a hero."

He added, "He exposed the crimes of the government. That we're all being spied on. all the time by the Obama administration? If anybody deserves to be in jail ... it's not Snowden."

I doubt Obama cares much about your phone records himself, but there a slew of private contractors and others who apparently can get access to things.

From something I posted earlier:

A thought about the NSA and phone records
NSA picks up info about some terror funding and arms in Afghanistan.

They start looking into the calls and find that a call was placed from there to somewhere in South America.

As they go through the calls and trace funding they end up....

With you talking to your friend.

Who was talking the day before with Janet because he wanted some weed.

She called her friend, who had a supply and from his calls they find another person up the chain....and people who never knew anyone in anyway have a call tree associating them with terrorist funding. Now they can get a plethora of warrants to listen and research more.

Map out everything you can in some way or other and you can find a way to show cause to get info on someone that you don't like.

Well, you get the idea.

access an actual suspect's records! After which they would see who S/HE was calling, not who everyone in the US states was calling. Amazing, and they wouldn't have to go rummaging through 300 million phone numbers to do it. Just ONE.

I keep asking someone to explain to me why they think this explanation makes one iota of sense, but it's the ONLY defense they've offered. It is stupid to try to find a number this way, so stupid that no person in their right mind could accept it as a justification for 'collecting and storing' records.

country's Constitution. Why don't those who despise our country, our Constitution, who are willing to throw away the rights so hard fought for, who are actually talking about criminalizing journalism, why don't they leave since they hate everything that makes this a democracy so much? But they should not go to Ecuador, they would not be welcome in a country that has so recently thrown out the very powers that are here destroying this country?

They might like some of our allied countries, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain where people's rights are unimportant and the state can spy on its people all they want and journalists have to 'watch what they say'. If this is what they want, why are they still here?

I'm glad people like Morello are standing up for Snowden.

Snowden exposed what we pretty much already knew but he confirmed it with the govt's own documentation. It sucks that our government doesn't trust it's own taxpayers. So some of my tax money goes to spy on me? That's BS. So screw them. I think it's hilarious that Snowden is one step ahead of the Feds. And I'm glad they are frustrated.

I call all this "Push Back." The govt crossed the line spying on us and some people have taken it upon themselves to stand up to the BS. I'm happy Morella wants to help Snowden out.

Every time the govt does this they take it up a notch on our civil liberties. What will be the next encroachment?

I'll go further out on that limb and speculate that he's probably about as popular as Clarence Thomas in black & hispanic households, only less well known. And you & I both know that as Occupy faded from the public conciousness, they were left with the barebones hardcore Paultards, who are really just Republicans who want to smoke dope and get laid.

That's "my point"! His participation in the fiasco known as "Occupy" speaks to his lack of judgement.

Wow. Talk about a shrinking "base".
Obama doesn't have to worry about getting elected again. We've got him 'till 2016. But Dems have to worry about not getting totally routed in 2014. Now, Tarheel_Dem, look once again at that shrinking "base", and at the flak Obama's mindless defenders, like you, have on a massive Dem board like DU.

If you had any sense, you'd notice that a huge percentage of Dems are in utter shock. There's a split in the community, just at the time where there's a growing understanding. But people like you, who claim to represent Obama's "base", are rallying around a cry to prosecute truth-tellers for treason, to suppress the facts of how the US is governed and ordered and ruled, and to reduce US politics to the Obama family vs the Kardishians as to which is more lovable.

Nothing funny about it. I think my friends may have written this book. Same experience and sounds like something they'd do with aliases.

"Ecuador – The Ugly Truth About Ecuador by Jack and Geneva Campitelli. About how some supposedly sophisticated expats got thoroughly clean[ed] out in a country that at heart has only vague resemblances to the ethics or morality or rule of law you may be used it.

According to the authors, the business system is totally corrupt. The banking system is weak. The political system is corrupt. The judicial system is corrupt 10 times more than Panama – where they also lived. However, if you’re hellbent on going there, it’s the most spot-on help-guide on Ecuador we’ve ever seen. It will be the best $20 you’ve ever spent if Ecuador is on your “consideration list.” Digital download only."

I have friends from Ecuador. They know their country is in transition from decades of corruption resulting from outside influences from the West. Huge Global Corps backed the worst and most dishonest 'leaders' in that region of the world. But now the people have begun the process of reversing those disastrous policies. It will take time, the corrupt are still there, unhappy with the wonderful changes that have so benefited their people but they are now out of power and hopefully it will stay that way.

We DID visit before we relocated and sad to say we did not understand exactly how thin of a veneer their ‘civilized/modern’ society really has.

We, the authors contend that Ecuador is a country to be avoided at all costs and for any reason save that it’s cheap to get in and you’re prepared to go native shortly thereafter. Here are some of the items you’ll find in the report:

How to find an English speaking assistant . . .

How to find a veterinarian . . .

What meds to bring from home . . .

How to get stuff into Ecuador if you make the mistake of coming . . .

Where to buy cat litter, what brand is the best . . .

A list of cities to avoid . . .

The truth about volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis . . .

How to find a washer for a garden hose . . .

What’s the best internet provider . . .

Why not to use “Direct TV”

What’s the “best” cell phone carrier and how to save money using them

Why to bring heartworm preventative meds with you for your pets.

A decent substitute for sour cream -- that you can’t get here . . .

How much to pay for a Panama hat . . .

Why not to buy property . . .
