I recognize that the challenge had no standing. I think that means that in the sixth district states can not ban same sex marriage. Other state are not held to that restriction. States outside the sixth judicial district can ban same sex marriage but their district courts could, but are not required to, follow the sixth and overturn them. If not it could go to the SCOTUS again. Please tell me if I got that wrong.

Does the ruling on DOMA affect laws permitting or banning same sex marriage?
