Today is a LIFE CHANGING DAY

Today marks a new chapter in the history of our country. Today, the SCOTUS ruled that Gays and lesbians have equal protection under the law. The impact was immediate.

My partner Alex and I started crying. Marriage, which for us in Arizona has always been an abstract concept, suddenly looks obtainable.

My good friend Michael, and his partner Matt, no longer are being forced to move to another country to stay together. Now, they can CHOOSE to stay in the United States.

My good friends Jen and Peggy, upon hearing the news about DOMA and Prop 8, decided to get married in New York in a few weeks. They live in CA, and Jen is from NY.

Thousands and thousands of more stories like these are out there. Truly, a momentous day in this country.

on DU (sounds odd I guess but you know what I mean), have been legally validated and I am happier with this country today than I have been in a long long while. Every now and then we get it right. Today was one of those days.

Congratulations. All the worry, blood, swear and tears that so many have put into this for so long has now been affirmed. Feels good.

The thing that troubles me is that it remains an issue that must be decided in 50 states. The SCOTUS decision was the only correct decision as marriage law is written. The good thing is, gays who choose to be married have 12 states to choose from. My state isn't one of them. While this ruling is a major milestone, there is still a long road ahead.

We're not fighting a uphill battle anymore, it's going to be like a snowball going down that same hill.
