This week is what it's like to work in politics
I think other DUers who have run, campaigned, managed, staffed, etc. at any level will agree. This is basically what it is like. Some hard hits, some victories, and then the next thing.
We lost the VRA. We lost it badly. We're going to have to do a lot of turnout work in the South next year to overcome the suppression the Republicans will be doing.
We won on DOMA, and we won big. Not everything that justice demands, yet, but a huge step.
We won on Prop 8, and we won small. It doesn't invalidate the principle state-by-state, but it upholds California.
We won in Texas, and we won really small. Perry can (and probably will) still call an extraordinary session and pass the bill.
So, that's one punch to the gut, one good win, and two wins that we'll take for now but keep our guards up.
If you've liked this roller-coaster, let me ask you to work on a campaign, or staff a local or national office, if you haven't. I think everyone should do some political work at some point in their career. You might find you have the bug.
