Walmart Pulls Paula Deen Products After Controversy
By: Lisa Mendenhall
Updated: June 26, 2013

BENTONVILLE -- Walmart is parting ways with celebrity cook Paula Deen in light of the recent controversy surrounding her.

Deen is under fire for making, but also apologizing for, racist comments.

The company posted the following statement on its website Wednesday.

"We are ending our relationship with Paula Deen Enterprises and we will not place new orders beyond those already committed.

"We will work with suppliers to address existing inventories and agreements."

The Food Network, which made Deen a household name, has also ended its relationship with the cook.

how many things I never knew she was involved with. I had seen a commercial for the ham and I knew she had a show on the Food Network. Of course, I knew she had cookbooks and a couple of restaurants. But I never knew about the casinos or Walmart or any of the other stuff that keeps coming out!

Where does it end?

when I see people (usually other celebrity types/public figures on TV debating this issue) ask, "But what will she DO? Can she recover?"

She can retire in comfort, that's what she can do! So long as a lawsuit doesn't wipe her estate out, the woman (and her relatives working with her) has PLENTY of money.

Seems it's always about mo' money, mo' money, mo' money.

and take your pots 'n pans with the peeling non-stick coating and exploding pot lids with you. Put your cookbooks full of recipes for "Sambo burgers", deep fried lard balls, in a big pile and burn them. Take your bozo sons with you and make them get a real job.

Walmart not willing to take all the profits they would make in the south is a statement that they KNOW Paula Deen put poison in the pudding,.

Honestly, she's a type of Southern Woman that is in large part performance. And I mean women that literally perform their personalities, whether they're famous or your flamboyant Auntie Beldonia. But there can be some meanness and insensitivity and some real shock at the idea that they're prejudiced on their part. "Why, I'M not prejudiced! I never count the silverware! I'm always nice to you people!" It includes a somewhat clueless romanticization of the Genteel South, a time when life was slow and easy and people had good manners...until you cracked open the shell and some really nasty stuff leaked out.

I am always quick to remind people that there is much, much to love in the South. There are many people to love. Imo Paula Deen is a woman to pity with some measure of disgust. And if I ever get the impression she is sincerely sorry and will make good things come of her mistakes I'll support her. But like all of us, she has to understand that she's not the victim, and she's been caught with her ugly roots showing.

She admitted to using the word, and other offensive language, in a deposition
concerning an employee who is suing her.
The depositon has been posted online.
