They are red, white and blue.
I am interpreting that as a great big 'right on' for the supremes decision today.
I live in Greenwich Village and saw a wonderful gathering around the Stonewall this afternoon. Great times!

Stonewall is a great bar to go to but on days like these too many people in a bar is not fun.

(9,353 posts)Went down to the gathering with all the politicians giving their speeches and, basically, just said to myself - crap!!!!!!! forgot to bring anything with which to take a picture. saw tons of people using their smartphones - I was just on my way to get something for dinner and had nothing with me.
Lots of press there. Tons of people taking pix and network feeds being sent out.
Still hearing cheers going out right now. Earlier they had a choir singing God Bless America - very moving to hear the last verse (and the land of the free). Giant shout from the crowd.

(9,353 posts)I'm on 7th and Charles. Have a clear view of the Trade Center and Seventh around Sheridan Square.
Girlfriend said that it was probably just for July 4th. I said noooooooooooooo way! Don't know the political persuasions of whoever runs the lights but really think it was in response to the decisions.

(19,877 posts)Alphabet city. They could be testing out the lights for the 4th of July but if they're still on now then it's a definite for Supreme Court decision.

(9,353 posts)Not sure if you were aware but the Manhattan-Henge sundown supershow will be that night. Bunch of friends will be doing a righteous happy hour at the Mermaid Inn and then wandering on over to 14th for the show.

(19,877 posts)Maybe I'll bring some friends by the Mermaid Inn. Always in awe of Manhattan-henge. Sacred geometry.

Remember when they had the fire. So totally sad. Nice that they were able to rebuild.

That's an impressive family history.
Assume that your family were members before then. That was when this area was just farms. Neat.

(9,353 posts)It must have been even more farms in Brooklyn.
What did your grandfather do?
hrmjustin
(71,265 posts)delivered oil in the Brooklyn and Manhattan area.
My Grandfathers uncle had the last farm in lower Brooklyn when he sold it to developers. They kept the house and barn which they turned into a house and my grandfather settled there until he sold it in the late 70's. He was 93 when he died. As for the Church it was not really farmland in the 1890's but it was at the founding in the early 1820's.
What a joyous thread with lots of news from this historical day. And even a little NY history too!
