Rick Perry is tacky, unmannered, and he wasn't raised right.

Those are his good traits.
Any one of those is a mortal sin, and he hit the trifecta.

Beyond being the gold standard for jackasses, he is beyond stupid. Who in their right political minds attacks someone personally who is riding a huge wave of popularity?

He may get props from his herd of nutjobs, but he added fuel to the fire that Wendy Davis started. Women in Texas are objecting to being treated as nonentities. Many of them may have been irritated, but they are now starting to express their anger openly. This is not confined to Texas.

Every time Perry or anybody else makes noxious remarks about women or tries to pass restrictive legislation, more women are prompted to get off their butts and begin to publicly react.

The importance of Wendy Davis and her filibuster cannot be overstated. An individual to rally around is priceless. More than one movement has been started because of something an individual did or something done to them.

The fact that she is such a positive, fearless, and outspoken leader only adds to the groundswell. Her actions are not only great for the prochoice movement but also to other people trying to fight injustice.

Hopefully, she will gain higher office. However, even if she faded away, Davis has already accomplished more than many and would always be a beacon to point the way.

I'd say his problem is that he is a dimwitted person who relies on guile, charm, perhaps good looks and bullying. Amazing that he has achieved what he has actually. Of course - he is in fertile ground.

But lot's of folks grow up without the benefit of proper upbringing and turn out just fine. I wouldn't let him use that as an excuse for his ill mannered sexist bellicosity. Frankly, the most obvious excuse for his behavior is that he is a sexist pig. It's not much more complicated than that.

edit: but I agree with your sentiment - he hit the losers trifecta and he is going for broke.

He is a bully, plain and simple. I think he was raised in the southern tradition that 'allows' men to control women. I don't think he thinks of women at all. He sees an issue and does what he thinks is right. he has no awareness that others do not agree with him, he does not care, he is right and the hell with others.

He is a bully. He will never change. He needs to be 'changed' voted out of office.

He "did not have no home training". He is rude, disrespectful, a bully and has accomplished getting to where he is in spite of not being very smart. Are there women in Texas who support him? Clearly there are some very smart women who have managed to get elected to government and they are surrounded by "men" who do not remember the wonderful political force that was Ann Richards. I bet she would be proud.

Government with dignity, education, common sense and actual knowledge is so much better than bullying. I will be so happy if the Lt Governor who posted the false vote record initially will be charged with a felony.

...I ask this in all sincerity. Sen. Davis' filibuster was inspiring but will that lead to future action or will the moment be squandered? We saw people power in action in Austin like we did in Madison and Columbus, but will that have an effect in getting rid of the root cause of these problems: rushpublican state legislators. These are the ones who are bringing up these draconian bills or just slipping them into other legislation and are the foot soldiers for a lot of the right wing attacks on all sorts of civil liberties. While Senator Davis is a rising star and hopefully will be a credible gubernatorial candidate in the future, will the momentum she's help get going continue into next year's election and lead to the ouster of some of the right wingers in the Texas legislature. And this question goes to other states, including Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio where there's been a lot of protests against the overreach of the rushpublicans.

If progressives and liberals aren't happy with the state of things...the place to start is at the bottom and work on up...

Hopefully, the momentum from that filibuster will be a tipping point. I wish I could say with a 100% that it will.

The grass roots level has to be more robust. I believe those women could greatly help that. It can't hurt.

However, statewide elections also have major consequences. Governors wield veto power and can be an obstacle to those who are RW ideologues. Some governors do get overturned and ignored. They still matter..

Like the rest of the Right Right Wing, or as I like to refer to them, the teabaggeratti, they are quite comfortable when they raise the noise to 11. If anyone objects or tries to reason with them then they just turn it up to 12.

I think we should give them all the noise they want.

election on November 4, 2014. My fellow Texans were afire, a fire not likely to go out since we're fighting for our lives and our daughters' futures. A young friend traveling in Japan could not sleep because she was so incensed over Prick's comments about Wendy after SB5 failed, and so wished she could have been in the Austin dome that night. And, after my small efforts working with Dem headquarters during last Presidential election, I can testify to the organization, commitment and passion to turn Texas Blue!
