(11,238 posts)Even without the backstory of those individual events...y'know, maybe in context one or two of the police actions have some justification...just looking at the armor & the weapons that police worldwide have now, it's chilling. The PTB know that worldwide civic unrest will increase and they have been preparing. I'm old now and I have to say I'm glad I won't be here to see the full brunt of what's coming. Gloomy thoughts for a sunny Sunday morning, huh?
Fear is what they're trying to evoke from us.
Don't be afraid.

(60,010 posts)which says something postive to me...we are all on the same message, globally.
The protests have many different origins. In Brazil people rose up against bus fares, in Turkey against a building project. Indonesians have rejected higher fuel prices, Bulgarians the governments cronyism. In the euro zone they march against austerity, and the Arab spring has become a perma-protest against pretty much everything. Each angry demonstration is angry in its own way.
Yet just as in 1848, 1968 and 1989, when people also found a collective voice, the demonstrators have much in common. Over the past few weeks, in one country after another, protesters have risen up with bewildering speed. They have been more active in democracies than dictatorships. They tend to be ordinary, middle-class people, not lobbies with lists of demands. Their mix of revelry and rage condemns the corruption, inefficiency and arrogance of the folk in charge.

(11,481 posts)EVERY ONE OF THOSE ISSUES IS ECONOMIC IN NATURE. The SPECIFIC economic issue is different in each place, but they are ALL economic based. I would even go further and say that the specific issues are all anti-austerity which means they are against the neo-liberal agenda for the world.

(11,481 posts)No controls over corporations. No regulations, no taxation on business, privatization of everything, but the military which is used as "protection" for business interests world-wide. Basically, the merger of global business with governments for the benefit of business. Or as Benito Mussolini called it "fascism". Also known as "trickle down" economics.
But yes, it IS the economic philosophy of the Koch Brothers and the right libertarians too. Google Milton Friedman. He was the philosophical founder of the modern neo-liberal agenda. Naomi Klein wrote a book about it called "The Shock Doctrine-The Rise of Disaster Capitalism".

(13,039 posts)It is obvious that the Oligarchs have been sharing notes, tactics and strategies.
It truly is the 99% versus the 1% with the police state as conflict arbiters owned by the 1%.

(27,137 posts)V: No. This is only the land of take-what-you-want. Anarchy means "without leaders", not "without order". With anarchy comes an age or ordnung, of true order, which is to say voluntary order... this age of ordnung will begin when the mad and incoherent cycle of verwirrung that these bulletins reveal has run its course... This is not anarchy, Evey. This is chaos.

(36,470 posts)Shock Doctrine is global. The revolution will have to be, also.
They want it all. If it has value, they want it. That $20k savings account that took you over ten years to save? They want it & they will squander it on something like a car elevator. They are rapacious ghouls.

(28,784 posts)Because leftist groups have been the target of govt. since the 1960s.
Our own govt. colludes with the global capitalists who want to bring Hobbesian economics to the entire western world.
So, the issue, really, is more complicated than whether or not spying is useful, or whether someone supports Obama, or whether someone is a Democrat or votes with the Democratic Party as the lesser to two evils in our current system.

(15,064 posts)politics, movies and books since we came out of the Dark Ages. Attila the Hun, Hitler, Communism, on and on. What is happening is the modern version of that concept. Only, now it's done using corporate fascism. Only today do we have global networks of finance that does not give a rats ass who runs a particular country or their politics. They only care about how to leverage whatever the social situation is to make it more profitable and common people stand in the way. It's the love of money that is the culprit no matter what anyone believes or does not believe. I've even heard so-called educated pundits boohoo the idea that politicians are bought. They postulate that that's a cynical view. Too bad it's a fact.

We live in very interesting times. Just check the blowback on the NSA scandal in Germany, it's been headlining in the conservative Frankfurter Allgemeine every other day.

(649 posts)The privatization of all the wealth of the world, that is ours by right, this is what they want. The 1% claim to "own" the world, not that they had a hand in the creation of the resources they take, and sell it back to us, just so we can scrap by,. held down by their corporate-capitalist system.
The idea that our monetary system is based on; 'capitalism',. is predicated on endless growth. Only we live on a finite planet. It is a sick game of musical chairs, as long as the music is playing the pyramid will hold. However, in the end, the bottom can not take the weight of the sick greed of the few. There are more than enough resources to feed, cloth, and house all people. We could live in a peaceful world, where we work to advance understanding, and explore space, both inner and outer, forever,. only we have allowed the sociopathic to gain the upper hand, to take power. Time has come to take the power back, and to distribute it back to we the people. Those with the least empathy rise to power currently,. and we let this pass. The results are a world out of balance. We must re-balance this planet and ourselves, or lose it all.
Degrowth, Permaulture, Slow Money, Relocalize, etc.
The tools are already here, stop waiting for a sign, do something about it now, before it is too late.
Protest is useful in slowing the rise of fascism, but building viable alternatives to the corporate system will yield more rapide positive changes. A bright green future awaits those brave enough to seek one.

The man who stole the water
Will swim forever more
But he'll never reach the land
On that golden shore
That faint white light
Will haunt his heart
'Til he's only a memory
Lost in the dark
Dig your hole in the ground
All the way down to hell
'Til there ain't no more water
In the well, well, well
When you're down on your knees
With nothin' left to sell
Try diggin' a little deeper
In the well, well, well
The water used to run
So clear and so fresh
Now poison creeps through it
That withers the flesh
The man sells us back our water
Like we're fish on his line
Tryin' to turn our blood
Into his wine
Dig your hole in the ground
All the way down to hell
'Til there ain't no more water
In the well, well, well
When you're down on your knees
With nothin' left to sell
Try diggin' a little deeper
In the well, well, well
Take care of your body
Like you care for your soul
Take care you don't dig your self
Into a hole
'Til you've paid the price
You don't know the worth
Of the air and the water
The fire and the Earth
Dig your hole in the ground
All the way down to hell
'Til there ain't no more water
In the well, well, well
When you're down on your knees
With nothin' left to sell
Try diggin' a little deeper
In the well, well, well
The man who stole the water
Will swim forever more
But he'll never reach the land
On that golden shore
